Has Anyone EVER had an email or forum post from a Garrett representative?

I have emailed Garret several times as well and have never had them not answer my questions. Have you check your spam folder a lot of times emails end up there by mistake.

I get your question if you email them to buy a part they get right back to you.And if you just ask a technical question they do not answer.....................................................FOR YOU ARE NOT SPENDING CASH THEN.................................................

There may be 2 other reasons for this.

The Person in the office Is an "Office Person" don't know the
Specifics on how they are Made. and Don't want to pull
a "Teckee" in to answer.

& the other is Secrecy.
Don't want to give info out that could cost them money
in the long run. due to out of Shop Service People,
Or Bootleggers.

Even back in '73 I had to Sign a paper for my first job
that said I would Not Commit espionage.

All I did was click on the thread and I read you original post. Then I replied. I didn't venture down to see any mods to the post.

The manufactures may be getting tired of tech questions that may be answered in the manual. I used to manufacture and sell electronic pinpointers. The number one email I got was. Hey my pinpointer is acting erratic and it won't pick up quarter at 1/2 inch. Every time I responded with - did you put a "new" battery in it? Some would say that they tried "another" battery some said no.I said "new" battery. It fixed the problem every time. But I had made that clear in the manual.

I had only 1 return after selling about 80 units. I have to say that there was nothing wrong with the returned one either.

Actually, I had no preconceived direction to my question. But I am beginning to think that your statement may be closer to the heart of the matter.

Yeah, I'm very careful to check my SPAM folder prior to deleting the contents. Still no response from Garrett.....

Well, I guess I would expect my office guy to forward the tech questions to the tech guy.

As for secrecy, If I can't ask performance questions, then all car manufacturers would never be able to tell you that their product gets 25 miles to the gallon @ 55mph with a single driver and no baggage; or that their product goes from 0-60 in 9 seconds in a desert environment, but is slower in a winter environment. These also should be secret according to your statement. ;D

I emailed J.W. Fishers a few years back, asking about a 48” coil they make. I asked if this particular coil could detect small items, such as coins and jewelry.

Chris at J.W. Fishers was kind enough to email me back a reply, that R&D showed this coil would detect coins and jewelry. Chris was kind enough to send me a handwritten follow-up letter to make sure all of my questions were answered.

I also received a handwritten (signed) Christmas Card from them.

Thank you, SWR. This is exactly what I am looking for.

I have the 2500 manual. I can assure you that the listed performance characteristics are few.

I have called Garrett about 3 times. This may be what you can try. They answer every time. You right, some manuals leave a ton of things out. Then you have to get on the forums for answers. I hope you can get some of your questions answered. Make the call and see what happens? Good luck to you.

Yeah, the phone call will be a last resort. I like getting written responses to some of my questions. Why? Because too many times the guy/gal who answered my question(s) over the phone ends up "not remembering" their own words three weeks down-the-road.

I'm don't know much about the 2500. But have you posted you questions here? There's a lot of people that have broken the trail with the 2500.

I have. But forum members can only answer with their own experience.

However, forum member's responses are not a standardized response(s) from the manufacturer, which is really what I am looking for.

Ideally, an example of what I am looking for would be:

Every 2500 has been tested to find "stuff" to a depth of 6 inches in desert soil. Your mileage may vary beyond 6 inches.

That performance characteristic would tell me that EVERY 2500 was good to at least a depth of 6 inches in desert soil.

(Please realize, I am not asking them to disclose HOW their circuitry enables the 2500 to detect to a depth of 6 inches. That would probably be secret.)

Here it is! Straight from the horses mouth.

YOU CAN'T OPTIMIZE THE GTI 2500 FOR GOLD ONLY!

email follows:

Bob,

The GTI 2500 is great for gold prospecting, but unfortunately there is no way to set a detector to just pick up gold because there are too many targets that look the same to a metal detector. The factory recommends hunting in the all metal mode and listening for every target you hear. The best coil for this application is the 5 x 10 DD. It retails for $149.95. If you would like to order, please call the 800# below, or you can order from our distributor for your area, Jobe Wholesale at 866-838-5623.

I guess this looks like I am in the market for a gold-only detector!

Solid advice I think. There's gold out there but it a lot of work to get it.
Hundreds of hours of experience definitely will improve your "chances" of finding the good stuff too.

Maybe your email was by chance captured by their firewall and they did not receive it? Defintely a possibility? It happens at my work once in a while.

What question exactly did you ask them? Seems like she tried to answer it??

Good luck!

Booby-

I just asked if the 2500 could be optimized for gold-only.

Reading your original post, I have to ask if you've tried calling them? My 250's coil busted months back and I had to ship the coil and housing to them. Anyhow, although I did not ask specific questions regarding performance, the woman who initially trouble shooted the situation obviously knew her stuff with the 250...........I called them again at a later time and was transferred directly to one of the guys that repairs the units. He was the first to tell me the coil went bad and had been replaced. My point here is that these people are easy to get a hold of, try them on the phone and ask for a person who could answer your question.

Sometimes I will send off an e-mail to Garrett or Fisher, but usually I by pass the customer rep and ask the operator who takes my call to transfer me to a tech. I feel Like I am getting the real story from the tech as opposed to an canned answer/response from a customer rep.I have my doubts that the customer service rep has ever been out with a detector. A friend of mine suggested that most reps do have metal detectors and probably have been out and tried each of the Companies Detectors, but I strongly doubt its enough time to answer our questions.

Thank God I'm not in the customer service field ::)
My hat is off to the peeps who have to handle all the
complaints and questions.

I emailed Garretts about the coil retainer bolt on my Ace 250 , I have all 3 coils and change them often and I guess I get too rough with them and over tighten sometimes so I stripped the bolt :(
Melinda answered my email the next day and sent me TWO new
bolts which I recieved in 2 days. She was very cheerful and helpful.

I bought a Whites PI off of ebay for a trip to Florida this summer and I contacted Whites with the serial number to see how old the detector was as I wanted to do maintenance on the seal as I didn't want to have a leaking control box while on vacation and I also inquired about an accessory or 2 and I got a reply with all the info I needed and the date of my detectors manufacture date within 2 days of my sending the inquiry.
