If you mean a pin pointer, I would stay away from the cheap brands on Amazon. Nokta Acupoint works well, XP MI-4 works well too. Many like the Garret carrot.

AFAIK, ALL metal detectors (in this context) are hand held.

Please clarify what you mean by "cheap hand wands".
  • Pinpointers
  • Security scanner wands
  • Underwater/scuba detectors
  • Inexpensive imports (of any of the above)
