This has been my best Rally Day ever, I don't do many but when I do, I normally get next to nothing :tongue3:

Firstly thanks to Shaun7 who helped find this option whilst Dad is away. We both worked hard at this one, as many left by about 13.30, only a few die hards stuck it to the end & I'm glad I did. With only 30 minutes until the end of the Rally, I got one of those 'scratchy' deep sounds that didn't sound like Iron, after I dug it I was shocked to see an circa 10th Century Anglo-Saxon Stirrup Mount with interlaced Beast pattern. One of my favourite & most difficult items to find, like most things found on this land it seemed to be a random loss. Which makes sense as the Apex Loop has broken, which is a common design fault on these (form over function). If they were found they were often repaired.

Top of Roman Brooch
Large piece of a Medieval Purse Bar
Kings Head Medieval Leather Mount
Medieval 4 way Junction
Jetton
Medieval Spectacle Buckle
Tudor Button
Silver Cufflink with Galley on front. (found in the last hour) - No date letter, but its the head of one of the Georges :icon_thumright:
Wild Boar Tooth (must be old) :o

It may scan better :-\ Hard to photo because of how shinny it was & the slight concave. Also, as you know, half the design is worn off :(

Wow that was a great group of stuff from the Rally! Love the cuff link!

Fascinating stuff. What was the Medieval 4 way Junction used for - is it military, horse? I can tell 4 things attached, but for purpose?

Also, how old are your thimbles?

I'm glad you kept going - amazing finds!

I've found a similar complete one, with 4 free moving attachments (metal 'clips' which looked like they riveted onto leather straps). Therefore I think your horse guess is spot on, I have no evidence for it being military, but I guess the Knights horses would have a similar bridal set up.

Did you win the rally?
You sure have enough point for the scoring sheets... :hello2: :hello2:

Congratulations big time, after looking at your findings must have been a great fun day.

How deep was the saxon mount? what was the sound like, was it both ways iffy or only one way???

No-one really wins a Rally, its more a social event. I'm not very social :laughing9: On a serious note, I have been a club member but when I moved to this area, the club had no shared land & were less than inviting. They told Dad & I to go find our own & that's exactly what we did & haven't looked back. Our latest Detecting mate brings research to the table & in the last year permission for over 5000 acres, & he isn't looking to stop yet :o (so the local club will find it difficult to get any :tongue3: )

It was about 14-16 inches deep. It was not a solid tone, iffy both ways, with a crackle (which I normally refer to as scratchy) at each end but still had a good central mid-higher tone sound (ie. not Iron sounding).

Sorry, just realised that I forgot to answer your thimble question. They are likely late 1800s, early 1900s.

Thanks - I know that's 'modern' for you, but I still actually use my Grandma's thimbles, so I have a soft spot for them.

Love that interlaced beast stirrup mount. I sure do enjoy your posts, it's like a walk back in time.

Thanks, stick around until Harvest, things haven't got interesting yet
