Today I was very happy to find my third ever crotal bell. This one is marked No 4, the previously found other two are of the same manufacture marked No 1 & No 2. All three are in great working condition. No makers mark but I believe they were made by the Barton Bell Company in CT across the Long Island Sound from me. The area I found these has also previously produced around a dozen Civil War-Era Indian Head Pennies for me.
This bell was about 6" deep in a valley whereas the other two were around 4" deep in higher ground. It had a corrosion film that I easily removed with Brasso metal cleaner on Q Tips. Seems to be a nickel composition.
Also found this iron half axle and two nice big wrought iron strap hinges. Coins aren't the only prizes to find. I love these bells and horse tack in general.
