Detector(s) used
ACE 250
Lately i have really been thinking about upgrading my detector. Through one of my distributors, i can get a really good deal on the GTI 2500. I wonder how this detector would compare to a Whites DFX or any of their top models. I am also curious as to how the GTI 2500 would compare to the top Tesora models. Going from an ACE 250, i do not know what to expect. Any input?

Either one would be a top notch machine.
I don't have either one (yet) but i'm aiming in that direction someday.

I did hear that the GTI 2500 eats batteries. I have been looking for something with a lot of power but not so many bells and whistles like the tesoro tejon.

You may be being offered a good deal as the machine isn't selling. I prefer the 1500 for the lower price and lighter weight.
I don't think there is much or any less performance with the 1500 except that the 2500 has a very deep all metal mode. That might be important to you or not.

The DFX is a better all rounder with twin frequency to tackle wet sand use. On the other hand you may think that the target imaging of the Garrett is more important to you on the type of sites you work.

There's a good in depth write up at the following site

Another consideration is that Garrett have had radical changes in the bottom/cheaper models while the top of range versions have remained unchanged. No doubt they have plans to rework the other models in their line up to try and repeat the success of the 150 and 250.

My 2500 does NOT eat batteries-- My discovery 3300 ate batteries. The imaging feature on the
2500 sets it apart from the others. A DFX user will be able to tell by just listening what the target
is and size-- experience and time is required to do this. Minelab and tesoro-- same thing. I'm a casual user who doesn't MD as much as i'd like. For this reason, the GTI 2500 works very well for
Me- -easy to use, enough options to cover most variations and that nice imaging feature. Is it as deep as the rest??- - I personally think so-- have detected alongside Whites and minelab users and thought
all three very close in depth.
Course, i still maintain the biggest difference with detectors of similiar price range is still the USER!! Knowing your detector and how to use it to its full potential is the most important
skill.

HH ;D ;D ;D ;D

I have to say that my 2500 does not eat batteries either. But really all you have to do is find out what it is exactly that you want from your machine. Many different machines offer many different things. i wish i could tell you that there is one ultimate machine but i cant. if you have any specific questions youd like to ask about my experience with my 2500 shoot me a pm and i will get back to ya.

The dfx comes with a rechargable battery pack, I have two just switch when one dies out and recharge. Batteries never a problem for me! Only speaking about the dfx.....very versatile great all around machine..but to get the maximum out of it you do need to tinker a little. I would not trade my dfx for any other detector, as hopefully everyone is happy with their own detector. Good luck in your choice.

I'm with greg on this.My dfx was the best choice i could've ever made for me...Try to get to a dealer and try them both out and see what you think....My dad uses a 2500 but he don't get much to detect...More possibilities with the dfx .Take's a little longer to master but well worth it...... hope this helps...rh

Does anyone worry about battery consumption nowdays ? My Deepstar on full power with a battery pack the size of a brick lasts five hours. The Fisher Impulse on a handfull of AA's lasts weeks.
Weight/balance is the real worry. If you can't detect for more than a few hours without wrecking yourself then better to get a machine you can enjoy.

Can't go wrong with some of the 2500 deals available. Mine does not 'eat batteries' - maybe because I disable some of the features. (And you can get rechargeable NiMH batts. - no 'memory').)
