Ground Finds

Still in the hunt. Turned serious today. Bo Diddly and I walked 47 miles of barbed wire, wore a Cobra Snake for a neck tie and didn't find one single coin. Not even a washer or broken pencil. (I seem to find lots of pencils) Hit my fast food drive thru's, walked Costco hundred yards of fence line, same for the 7-11 bushes. Nothing. Just letting you know I'm out there making a fool out of myself looking for loose change and bills. I have No life.

If my Ground Hunting couldn't get any weirder? Today while killing time waiting for a prescription to be filled, I walked the back of a good size strip mall looking for ground finds, and "of course" looking in Dumpsters for dumpster finds. Someone called the cops on me, or else I was seen on a security video camera. Suddenly I was a "suspicious person". Nice cops, showed ID, explained prescription wait, looking for dropped change, always curious what's inside dumpsters, just having a short walk in the sunshine. Suggested I leave the back area and stay in the parking lot for finds. Lots of "yes, sir" from me. Have nice day officers. All that and I didn't find a single coin. Oh yes, the dumpsters didn't have anything of interest. Most were locked. Tomorrow is another day.

That's why I use a truck for a disguise :laughing7: I'm not having much luck on the bill side either, then again it's the route and sites I'm covering, they're much too open. Oh, talk about bum luck, Sunday night I covered one good route, with little finds. My buddy covered it Monday night and found a $10.00 in a parking spot. I was just a day short :tongue3:

Anyway, last night I found 1 dime and 2 nickles. You mention getting looks, well the first nickle was on the sidewalk I was blowing off next to a work force office and a few guys saw me pick it up. They asked what I found I told them a nickle left or the sweeper. The other was in the street a few yards down from them :tongue3:

Tonight's route isn't that fruitful, but there's always a possibility :laughing7:

In my recent travels around town---two nickles, two dimes, 3 cents and one Canadian cent. And, three aluminum coins found on top of a coins star type machine. Won't count them as I gave them to the first boy I encountered. Actually to his mother. I know better than give candy or coins to small children.

edited to add YTD $5.31.

SAG98..to be truthful I didn't spent more than a second looking at the aluminum coins. Each one had the weight of a feather. I'm still spending a couple hours each week going through my wife's foreign collection, looking for silver and value. I asked you for website help a couple of times. 47 pounds. Gad! Found about two oz of silver and maybe a couple hundred bucks of value other than the 11 1968 Olympic Coins. My lcs has one in a 2X2 asking $28. My book says $18. I've learned more about foreign coins and metals than I wanted to know.

To the topic, found two more cents today at a crosswalk stop sign. Yes, I did get out of my truck to retrieve them. With my YTD count, wouldn't you? Now $5.33.

btw---understand only ground fines are counted. Machine reject's don't count. Right?

I've gotten out for gum, that I thought was a coin :laughing7: Off until Tuesday night, but went to a local CVS for ciggies and viola, 2 quarters, 1 dime, and 3 cents all in the spot next to me

Today I found something new. An active Visa Credit Card on a sidewalk. Woman's name. I drove by the Police Station and gave it to the Desk Girl. Told her where I found it, she said thank you, I said bye. That's all there was to it. No coins.

So far this year I have found $250.21. I walk HS parking lots, car washers, drive-thrus and laundrymats. Car washes are a gold mined. Look in the return trays where people get there towels, wipes, etc. I will find a lot of quarters sitting in those trays and the obvious the vacuum stations and the car washes themselves. Today I found .55 cents during my lunch at 2 car washes. 1 quarter, 2 dimes, and 11 pennies which brought my total to $250.21.

Great thread! I finally found people who share the same interests I do.

I forgot to mention that I found 2 gold rings. One was a 10K men's ring (3.8 grams) and sold it for $36.00 and the other is a 14K women's ring which I still have. I included the $36.00 for the 10K gold ring into my found money.

After work yesterday, I stopped at a car wash on the way home and got 3 quarters and 13 cents. Total for yesterday was $1.43 and year-to-date total is $251.09. The 3 quarters were in the return tray of the car wipes/towels.

It is raining heavily today so I don't think I will find anything today!

The most coins I found in one day was 192 coins plus a Target gift card that had a balance of $3.62 on it and a one dollar bill. Total for the day was $11.92. This was Saturday, 30 March 2013. The first HS parking lot I walked had 68 coins in several of the stalls. They were pennies, nickles and dimes. Looks like the HS kids had a coin war. I like spills like that.

What hot spots have you found? What was the most coins you found in a day?
