Great Seal Button Backmarks Help

I am assembling a list of US Army Great Seal button backmarks 1902-present.. This seems to be the most complete list available anywhere. With the help of TN members, I am occasionally adding and improving upon it. So far I have over 100 different backmarks. Anyone with a Great Seal button backmark or backmark variation not listed please post the pic and Ill add it. The thread is already so long its not necessary to add anything already pictured. Thanks.

This is how it all started:


I bought 2 bags of small Great Seal of US buttons for a buck at a flea market. Can someone help me date these backmarks? I believe they are all post 1902. I cant find anything else online.

1- Top row SCOVILL MF'G CO WATERBURY (back ungilted)
2- SCOVILL MF'G CO WATERBURY
3- Bottom CITY BUTTON WORKS - N.Y.
4- WATERBURY BUTTON CO.

RL (Interlocked) in a Circle (is this an R. Liebmann button?)

Thats a new one I havent seen!

Sorry I havent been able to update this thread but yes we could certainly include it. Im not sure if its a Liebmann.

Looks like a rare backmark. I dont have anything on it but I see its on the list.

Where did you find it? It may also be on the list of buttons Rockermike was looking for. Nice find.

The funny thing is, I've dug hundreds of holes metal detecting and have only found one of these buttons. This one I found wile digging a hole for a big palm tree I was planting in my backyard!
I'm in Florida about 30min. South of Tampa.

That button is in good shape for a dug specimen. Hopefully some information on the W&S Lyon Co. can be found.

Is the OPs button a raised letter backmark? Or are my eyes deceiving me?

The hat is from W. & S. Lyon Co. military supplies New York City. The jacket is also missing one of its middle buttons.

WWI Military hat. Cloth and leather. Inside top of hat is stamped: W& S Lyon co. Military Supplies 35-37 East 20th St. New York.

Is this backmark, missing the "na" the norm? I also got one with "J.C.L. Shabeck/Prov. R.I. Here's a picture of the Kahn(?) and I will post the Shabeck when I get the buttons unless one has already been posted.

Looks like a good one. It looks familiar but Im not able to find anything on this button but I think its KAHN. I did find mention of Kahn Tailors or Kahn Tailoring in Indianapolis circa about 1930s-WW2. No mention of the incorrect spelling.

Somewhere on this page is mention of "Kahn Tailor Uniforms, Indianapolis, IN". If its here, the button company may be older than I previously noted.

How about a "Handy Button Mach Co./ Chicago"? Picture isn't the best. And it is definitely "Kahn/Indiapolis".

I just got one that has a "Cumner Jones & Co,/Boston" backmark. It is post 1910. I will post a picture tomorrow. Quick research says they were in business from 1890-1950.
