Got out a little today....................

Well I went up to the the little beach I do some digging at and the high tides we have been having lately has started consolidating the sands.... not prime yet but better.
I didn't take any equipment today because the tides have been backwards and it was late when we decided to go check it out.
With that said if tomorrow's weather is still clear we very well may go in the morning... The high tides are getting lower. from over 9 feet to just over 7 feet tomorrow and the time of high tide is another hour later almost..... So things are looking up Here are some pics of the beach today.

I made it to the beach today... My partner had to tend to some other business and so I had to go it solo...
When I got there and started unloading I noticed some little white fuzzy stuff coming out of the sky.... It was friggen starting to snow... ah but it was only a little flurry and passed quickly. I didn't get many pics today since I was alone and it was cold so I tended to the business at hand.
The beach wasn't much different than yesterday as far as concentrations so I just took was was presented to me and ran it... I managed to run two cartloads of material before I called it quits.
Here are the results of todays run since it actually turn pretty nice after I got home..... I didn't cleanup yesterdays run because by the time I was done with todays material... I was done.....

"A dollar a day keeps the doctor away". No wait....I guess it's an apple a day.:laughing7: Still looks good to me.:icon_thumleft:

I went out today to get an idea of volume that I moved yesterday.
I got the trusty old 5 gal bucket and filled it to the brim then dumped it into my cart.....
This is what 3 filled level 5 gal buckets looks like in the cart, this is just dry blond beach sand so it isn't as compressed as the black sand usually is.
So armed with that info I may have moved 4 full buckets yesterday, (more likely it was 3 because I didn't smooth the material) in 2 cart trips, because there is no way I'm gonna pull a cart that full of mostly black sand even on the wet packed area of the beach.......

I found out that a cubic foot of wet black sand weighs around 225 lbs. or about 27 pounds per gallon.
The gorilla cart tub is 6 cu. ft..... nope aint no way I'll be puling that ...:laughing7:
The 3 filled to the top 5 gal. buckets when filled to the top is right around 5.5 -6 gal.
You guys can do the math.....:laughing7:

OK so heres a cheat sheet....

I cleaned up the big haul and pulled the magnetics out of it.... final weight.... 3 grain.
Which is about 3 times what I expected it to weigh.... woooo hoooo I made gas money.
SO spot at 1138.30 / 480 = 2.3715 x 3 = $7.1144
so we'll call it 6 bucks for the sake of variables.
I made gas money..... :laughing7:

Just wanted to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and healthy prosperous New Year.

Enjoy this wonderful gift ..

OK... We managed to get out a little today and it was a beautiful day on the beach.....
First look did not look promising, Second look we found a little black sand, definitely not as good as last week but since we were there we figured what the heck.... so we moved 5 carts of material... haven't done the cleanup yet but most likely will tomorrow, at any rate I will share the massive results as soon as I get things cleaned.
Enjoy my misery.....:laughing7:

5 carts this full today...........

And here's a couple of videos...... This first one I almost decided to skip moving any sand........

Then we did find a little area that showed some black sand so I decided to run it.....

And this short clips of the feed and how the sands clear the slick plate.

One problem I've noticed while sluicing myself, and also in the 2nd video, you drop a shovel full into the slick plate and it just kinda follows a narrow line down the sluice instead of utilizing all the surface area. All sluices should have some area after the slickplate to evenly distribute the load across the sluice before it hits the riffles. Would help to break up any chunks that went down your slickplate too and / or clay.

Well I started the clean up..... It was a very nice day at the beach..........
We did actually get some color but I haven't finished ... My back is though...
Oh ... and did I mention ... It was a very nice day at the beach.......................

This particular configuration of my beach sluice is 6 feet long, the closest this sluice has to riffles is the sawtooth mat that is in front / upstream of the magnetic section.
I have 2 more sections with matting that would bring this up to 10 feet long, plenty of time for everything to settle out and stratify.
Buy the time it gets to the sawtooth mat it has dispersed fairly well, buy the time it hits the magnetics it's well dispersed.
There is no clay on the the beach where I work..... Just fine sand and cobble.

Won't be getting out a little today......:laughing7:

We got some snow, a rare thing on this part of the coast but it does happen from time to time.....

It appears the weather is breaking but the beaches are still not prime.
With that said , The day I had to work I saw this north of town....
I'm sure there is pot of gold at the end of it and it appears to be hitting my beach.....:tongue3:
