Hey everyone,

Hope you all are getting out in this great spring weather. Last week I went to my frequent hot spot to do some hunting. I had a nice 4 silver dime day plus a few others.

I was out hunting alone because it was a Friday and everyone was working or in school. Saturday night Lance my brother decides to come over.

I said we'll get up early and head back out to the area were I got the silver dimes. As soon as we get there Lance pulls 2 silver dimes. I said man I found 2 yesterday right in the same area.

We kept hunting and about a few hrs into the hunt I had nothing to show for really. Until all the sudden I make my way up onto a small bluff.

It had a few creeks below it and was a beautiful little nook. And Hit a lone some flat button. I said to Lance found a colonial button. Not thinking anything of it.

I kept on swinging. A few months back I found a flat button in the area also. Didn't think much of it at the time either. Sometimes you find just one here and there.

But then I find another. Then another and so forth. I knew then something was up. There were no pine tree's around to mark the site. No old stones or walls.

There had to have been a small cabin that sat right on this perfectly level land. I ended up pulling out 9 flat buttons. Lance got one himself.

I also hit a nice 1818 large cent. But the find for me was one I didn't know I had. It was my first 1803 drapped bust half cent. I thought when I dug it was a flat button with the shank missing.

It wasn't until I got home and seen the words liberty at the top. Then I knew I had something. We worked the area for a few hrs. Crazy thing was there was no trash or relics.

Everything was a coin or a button. Found one nice large musket ball. And a really nice old charm with a runner on it. Lance found a barber and a merc there.

But other than that it was really quiet. The area was known to have settlers as far back as 1760. I think I hit one of there hidden cabin sites in the woods.

I usually have to look at old maps to find sites like these. I just happen to come across one by accident. The detector let me know of the age of the area.

I will be back soon. I don't think there is much left though. Like I said it was virtually hitless. Only hits were keepers. But you never know what you can miss.

Hope you all like the pics

The DFX master! What else can I say? Congrats to both you guys.WTG!!

Thanks alot everyone.

I was in heaven you guys. The colonial finds really get me going. It's so tough to locate them here in the city anymore. We have the history.

But the development here is wipping out all the wood lands. You have to be about 20 or 30 minutes out of the city to find the cellar holes.

I usually take my time in the fall to look over maps and see what I can come up with. I am usually good for about one nice cellar hole per yr.

I find more than one. But it's only one in so many that produce well. It was a real bonus to find it by accident. I was already in the general area finding old coins.

I have already came across 2 other foundations in this woods. Spaced out further away though. I still think that good finds will come out of this whole area for the next few yrs or so.

Thanks alot guys,

Headed back out today to the site. Didn't come away with one single old coin or flat button. I did manage one little pewter shoe buckle or pin. It has a bunch of stones in it.

The hill top and surrounding area's were vurtually hitless. Just was a small concentrated area with the colonial finds.

I did however manage to come away with a few tokens a buffalo and some wheats. So it's back to the late 1800's and early 1900's finds again for now.

What a spot, way to go Jer.

wow !!!! great finds , thanks for showing us ;)

Thanks alot guys.

It was nice to find this spot by shear luck. All the items were cleaned in peroxide. Then mothers was applied to them.

The fork is really a heavy one. Its not marked sterling but came out of the ground shiny. I need to research the co and see how old it is.

Thanks alot guys.

My back was O.k. It should be at 26. But my elbow was bothering mew for about a week. That 1400 gets a little heavy after 3 or 4 hrs. But I feal strong again.

Liquigirl,

The items cleaned up pretty well. Considering they are 200 yrs old. It did take a good bit of hrs to clean everything as well as you see it. Alot of corrosion had to be taken off the buttons.

P.a soils are really tough on all metals even the silver. Some areas are better than others. Oh well I can't complain. Atleast I'm finding it right.
