I found a company write here in FLORIDA,2hr. away..I took my items there in sept.got more then I expected....Also just took more down DEC.2..& got paid.when I got home I went tru the reciept & noticed that he had written the price per gr. in the price colum @ in the weight colum, instead of the weigth in the weight colum on my 14k @ 16k gold amounts...I called him back & he said I was right but couldn't find his notes on the weights ??? ..He excepted my weights that I had on hand .Got A check for $913.76 :hello2: more three days latter !!!!If he wanted to beat me he had the chance & he trusted me the same....THANKS TO THEM & YOU GUYS ALSO.... :icon_thumleft: :icon_thumright:

You didn't say what they pay. Or what their total fees are. I deal with a company that only charges 2%. I calculate ahead of time exactly what I expect to get based on my own testing and weighing. Last batch the check was a few $$ more than expected.

I don't understand switching the gram column with the karat column

right now gold is at $1123.30 that = $1.50 per gram/per karat

so if you have a 14K & 20gr chain it is worth $420
($1.50 x 14 x 20 = $420 or $1.50 x 20 x 14 = $420)

either way you multiply you get the same answer, am I missing something?

Re: got more then expected & them some!!!!!!!!!!GREAT COMPANY

description weight unit price total
14k 19.95 gr. $19.95 $203.04

WHAT IT SHOULD HAVE SAID

14K 55.2 gr. $19.95 $1,101.24

Thats $898.20 more owed to me
on the 14K..
The 16K was in my favor, was paid for 23g but I only sent 8g...

Take it from a Refiner if your shopping around.

Take some of your gold, melt it or have it melted by a jeweler into a homogeneous bar. Chop the bar in half with bolt cutters. Send one half to one Refiner and the other to another...and go with who really pays you highest...but dont tell em what you did, or have the two bars remelted into singles...either way, get the alloy the same. And Follow the money.

If your a one shot wonder the last thing you want to do is send it to some faceless corporation. The Gold Biz is SO transparent. If its too good to be true...its not. If it seems fair...it is. If you feel anything funny...dont work with them, you dont have too.

If you want any honest questions about refining feel free to ask. I also do the service but dont hold you to obligation. I buy from a lot of members on here so they dont have to do the guess work.

I buy outright at 95% if its under an ounce, I really cant do the tiny lots anymore, But its VERY fair considering I make maybe $30 off a lot.
If its more than, I pay 98% after refining, NO FEES

FEES and BS to watch out for.
Assay fee,
Refining Fee.
Incoming per ounce fee.
Flux Fee...no I am not kidding some do!
handling fee
They may as well with some of them just call it an extra profit fee!

Facts about melt loss.
Yes, you do get some, But its mostly just crap on the jewelry or gold that burns off, It should not be high at all on gold, on pure gold there will be none! on jewelry whats burning off is the hand lotion. grime, soap scum under stones and in hallowed out places. The springs from chain clasps. And the solder is a lower karat...some pieces are filled with wax. Bottom line is. there should be almost none.

Before you send your valuable jewelry off to some faceless company and before you contribute to some rich guys next Porsche payment. Feel free to ask me for advice to get it straight. I am here to help members as they have helped me.

Thank you,

David Emslie

Sounds like a mistake on their part.
That company scares me.

I go with ARA for gold. They pay 98%.
For platinum, I would go with Midwest Refineries. They pay 90%.

ARA loses no gold during the refining process. Midwest loses 3 to 4%.
Therefore, Midwest actually pays 95% minus the 3-4% lost, so actually, Midwest pays 91 to 92% for gold.

But, ARA only pays 80% for platinum. Midwest pays 90%. So even when you subtract the 3-4% loss, you still come out ahead using Midwest for plat.

Besides all that... People wonder how a company can survive on 2%. I will tell you how... They keep the metal thats left over after refining. All the nickle, silver, etc.

By the way... I called Midwest to ask them how they would deal with my 18k gold and platinum ring. The guy told me they could only pay me for the 18k gold and they would keep the plat.
I called ARA with the same question. They said they could seperate the gold from the plat and pay me for both.

In conclusion, these are my findings...
1. Sell gold to ARA for the 98% with no gold loss.
2. Sell gold combined with platinum to ARA... You get 98% for the gold and 80% for the platinum. You gladly take the 80% because they are the only refinery that will seperate the gold from the plat, and not keep the platinum.
3. Sell the platinum to Midwest.. They pay 90%, so even after the 3-4% loss that they claim, you still get 86-87% as opposed to ARA's 80%
4. Every refinery has some glitch that helps them make money. The differences between Midwest and ARA proves that.
I dont know if I could do business with a company that "looses any of my gold during any processing" I mean COME ON! do you really believe they loose any gold?.

Re: got more then expected & them some!!!!!!!!!!GREAT COMPANY

To me its what you can live with.Im 60+ & 100% disabled.I have sold items at flea markets for many years...No matter what you sell something for THEY could buy it cheaper some were else!!! If I feel its worth $100.00 thats what I want... Driving ten miles to get gas for 2 cents less no more..Most of the gold & silver is found so when im ready to sell I want to get rid of it all at once,If im comfortable with the buyer its his ! Like they say a bird in hand.. ,,rvdsr
