Got A Rock you Want Identified? Post it here! gimme a good picture or 3 or 4!

It will not pick up a strong magnet, only has the mildest pull on the magnet. Can that still be Magnitite.
I used the underside of a toilet lid and it did make a dark grey line, kind of like a pencil lead. What does this mean?

Check this. streak test
Your test and the non-meteorite looking appearance kind of confirm it is a meteor-wrong.

I don't think it is a meteorite, I do think it is a lead or Nickle chunk. I don't think it is valuable.
I still like it!

I think I SCORED! Check out these 4 different specimens, please and thank you! I'm hoping these are gold and silver.

The first one looks really promising, could just be pyrite but looks like it could be gold trapped in the the quartz. Did you sample pan the area where you found that quartz? Sometimes when I've gone prospecting and found cool specimens I pan some spots next to the contact zone (as best I can make out where that might be) and at the downstream bend where the water slows down. Sometimes if there is no water nearby I grab a couple of buckets of dirt and pan it when I get home. I've never found much of anything lol but this is a bit of my technique if it helps.

Hello,

I found these while woking in Afghanistan. I have no idea what they are, they have almost the grain of a piece of wood, but no pics of petrified wood seem to look similar. The one with the red in it I cleaned up and sanded a little bit, which is why it is shinier than the others. They all seem to be the same make up but with a little color variation. They were also all found with in about a 10 ft radius of each other. Anybody have any thoughts?

Thanks!!

Not sure but it could be petrified drift wood. I have a similar piece found on a hill near the Rio Grande river close to Las Cruces, NM. I had the broken end cut off at a diagonal and polished. That cut reveals the growth rings and the pores.

Serpentine, I've worked with similar material from Afghanistan.

Look to be petrified wood. Wood bones and other carbon based materials will absorb the surrounding minerals, and in many cases take on more. Once petrified I've seen pyrite ,copper, and opal form in the petrification. Very nice, usable in cab making for jewelery.

Lola yup.. Hey your rock is amazing there, I would try to get one of the garners out for a scratch test, and I would also see if you can't cut one with a tile saw, the May be garnets, but I think there is a possibility of them being amalgamated gemstones in Manhattan schist., then they may even be tourmaline.
