Got A Rock you Want Identified? Post it here! gimme a good picture or 3 or 4!

thanks dustedyou,i order some panning equipments and start panning.while im surveying/investigating the location i found a large compacted white stones about 20ft height and 15ft wide.

Oi M8, so you have a Grey WACKE..lol ya i know funny name ( Sandstones and Conglomerates for more information there!) but the cool think about them is that high mineralization does occur here due to the way Earthquakes form and the Clay/Sandstone makeup give way under pressure after long periods of time.. causing veins of mineralizations (iron/pyrite silver and gold copper etc..) to Vaporize into the rock. picture #1 has good iron mineralization and #2 also has it but it also has the bends twists and fractures of good earthquake dissipation. dig in the most highly folded areas Grey wacke erarth quake fault.jpg

with the best mineralization and hunt the vein .... GL m8! and Get That Gold!

lol and PAT don't worry ... lol ASK AWAY! I don't mind one bit!

Hello Dustedyou, recently went MD near a stream that runs over bedrock, found this flake in a small gravel bar, registered around 40 on my detector. Fairly soft, layered internally, smudges on paper. Could it be graphite? Weighs .9 grams. If it is graph

ite , am I getting closer to gold and others minerals? Thanks for your help in advance, I'm new to all this so any help would be appriciated. I'm using a garret at gold in all metal with the 5x8 coil.

yup looks like it could be graphite (yellow bit possibly titanium.. it tends to form with graphite) Graphite-ore.jpg

In the second and 3rd pictures .. well there a little different.. possible graphite but with the purple (Molybdenum most likely.. that's an interesting addition.) so in retrospect i think with great certainty that you have:
Molybdenum disulfide; This is the inorganic compound with the formula MoS2. The compound is a di-chalcogenide.
This black crystalline sulfide of molybdenum occurs as the mineral molybdenite. It is the principal ore from which molybdenum metal is extracted. MoS2 is relatively unreactive, being unaffected by dilute acids and oxygen. In its appearance and feel, molybdenum disulfide is similar to graphite. Indeed, like graphite, it is widely used as a solid lubricant because of its low friction properties and robustness.

lol while not what you were hunting for ... it is a find! and yes your in the right area.. i would look higher into the hills for more of a yellow looking rock with inclusions of Iron and talc...

Thanks Dustedyou! ThanksMeteorminer!

Definetly interesting, I'm gonna have to do more research and get into the woods with the detector and panning equipment this week. Hopefully a promising area with many interesting features. Excited to explore. Great info! Thanks again! HH

Found this in a old granite quarry in Sweden, any idea what they are?20130523_112429.jpg

Found this accidentally while metal detecting in south eastern PA. It was in the ground I was digging. Haven't seen anything like it before.

Found these on a FS road in the el dorado national forest. They were broken off a larger piece i didnt have time to dig up. Rhyolite tuff and dirt is whats on the surface in the area. Glassy like obsidian but has the brown tiger stripes and is blocky in its structure.

looks like a blue green Feldspar with Iron inclusions on it also could be Flourite, to check hold a black lite over it in a dark room and see if it Fluoresces (glows) under the light! Flourine (flourite) will glow very beautifully

Its Flint!... Flint is a hard, sedimentary cryptocrystalline form of the mineral quartz,[1][2] categorized as a variety of chert. It occurs chiefly as nodules and masses in sedimentary rocks, such as chalks and limestones.[3][4] Inside the nodule, flint is usually dark grey, black, green, white, or brown in colour, and often has a glassy or waxy appearance. A thin layer on the outside of the nodules is usually different in colour, typically white and rough in texture. From a petrological point of view, "flint" refers specifically to the form of chert which occurs in chalk or marly limestone. Similarly, "common chert" (sometimes referred to simply as "chert") occurs in limestone.

While similar to Obsidian Flint comes in almost every color Known to man, and is great in starting a fire! lol Flint.jpg
It was also used widely to "Knapp" for knives, hatchets, and arrowheads.. (as obsidian was) but was preferred by Clovis man for hunting Mammoth.

hehe But of course, and hola! como estas? any samples are good send me a pict and ill try to do my best m8! lol and the last one i licked was a "Black Salt" specimen from Poland... goes very well on Tamales!

g'morning Dust: Drnk yer coffee and stop oggling my maid.
I have to redo the picturs, but I will have to trick the camera, it insists in focusing on the background. However here are a few backgroud pictures of the area. What is your opinion on on the potentials?

Ok Don Jose.. now the 1st picture is gorgeous ... volcanic/ earthquake mix/lift and a ton of erosion to cut thru the levels, Id love to hike that (would take me a month tho, because of the constant stop pick up a rock and observe the strata and mineralogy) lol... but i digress! (yes great spot to go look)...

As for the second one the rock in it is interesting... good that the file was that large.. i got to zoom in...
I would say its Welded rhyolitic tuff, irregularly shaped glass shards are still relatively unreformed. Also note the phenocrysts of quartz (clear) and biotite (dark red) I would say when closely observed (cut) it would look similar to biotite and quartz.jpg
The sample i posted was from a large silver mine in southern Nevada...
I would love to get some pictures of heavier mineralization... look in a spot that looks like this:
Earthquake Shear.jpgfolded quartz.jpgverticle folded earth.jpg
first look for Folded earth (the more vertical the better!)
then look for Folded Quartz within the formation (also looking for Green (copper), or Red (Iron), Yellows , blues etc (good mineralization))
Then if your looking Keep your eye out for the Earthquake Shear (Picture#3) this is a good spot to look for the proper fracturing of the mantle to allow for gold to rush up during the extreme heat.. and form in pockets)
with all of this being said... now its time to begin a hike.. break open rock .. and take a loop with you.. you never know when your going to find micro gold, or a good chunk... but when you do youll be elated.!!

Any way you go send me some more pictures of what you find.. and ill try to get you closer to the Gold!
