Got A Rock you Want Identified? Post it here! gimme a good picture or 3 or 4!

#1 Is phyllite or mica schist.
#2 Is chalcedony or agate. Agate is "banded"; dip it in water. If you see banding - agate.

Thank you! It looks like it is banded I've always collected rocks but just recently got books to learn more. I have one last rock I have a question on. I also found this in anza I've read that You can find fossils around here and was wondering if this looked like a fossil to you. It's kind of light weight and looks like tissue?

Hey there! I had a rock I found awhile back. I broke it up because I thought it was a turquoise and quartz rock. Well I didn't know what I thought it was but upon cracking it open this is what I found. Same thing happened with another rock but it looked as if it had gold just covered in copper.

Oh my. I am making a fool of myself i was trying not to post anything until I went to find directions on How to post pics as well. I am so sorry about all this.

Okie dokie new to AZ and found these two same day while cleaning up the yard of things left behind by previous tenants. Love the color and curious as to what they would be.

Jordan Rift Valley

I found this rock in Israel along the Jordan Rift Valley. Was wondering if anyone would be able to identify what it is.

Not a fossil. In technical terms we'd call it a metasomatically altered rock. Basically, hot water solutions have changed the original rock.
The "tissue" like feature is what I'd call etching, the hot water removed material.

The "veins" could be chalcedony, again. Not sure what the original rock could've been, my gut says quartzite. But the images aren't conclusive on that.:icon_thumright:
Use magnification (10x loupe is ideal) and see if the rock looks like "sugary". In the sun, almost like a cube of sugar.

Well my boy friend will be disappointed haha he was the one that found it and thought it could be a fossil. I should have known it wasn't a fossil because I thought fossils break really easy if not taken out properly. Well thanks again! 😀

Thank you very much for your help! Are they natural occurring or man made im wondering how they got in the water under the Tarentum bridge

Man made. All slag I know of is man made. Natural (volcanic) glass is called obsidian.:icon_thumleft:

Where is Dustedyou the op? He's brilliant to say the very least!

Hello I have had this rock for ages and opened it up today. Just curious if you could please tell me about it? Thank you!IMG_0895.JPG
