I'm thinking probably Mica. Put your specimen in deep shade, and if they still shine you might be onto something. I'm not much of a rock guy as far as what a rock is or isn't,
but I don't think you have quartz, looks more like agate to me. Someone on here will know for sure.

It's some kind of crystallize mineral specimen and it would most likely be of some fair amount of silica or quartz. I'm not seeing the golden specks you mention. It is a nice sample and who knows? It may yield some gold.

if ya spit on mica it turns very dark...its the shiny stuff in comet cleaner
