I'm wondering why Tony didn't consider cannibalizing his other dredge for the broken part, instead of trucking it 2000 miles away with an uncertain fix date...and snow on the way. Even if the other part isn't an exact match, these guys retrofit stuff in the field all the time, just to get things working. If he spent $1.5 million on it, it must be in pretty good shape and complete with all parts...

He is by far the smartest of them all. He is saving a boat load of money on fuel and labor cost. not including the money he makes off everyone he leases his land out too. I think Parker should have bought that land he wanted, his grandpa thought it was a good idea as well. his greed might end up costing him everything one day, or his people skills one.

I think the one he just bought is a much bigger dredge, so the parts wont fit that one. Would have made since though, he could have had one made for the new one while they were getting it to his property and rebuilding it.

Just because you dig up, and just because you put it through a sluice, doesn't make it "pay" dirt

Let us all said a prayer for Loser Toad and his hard working crew. Looks like his moved to another state is not working too good for them. Good hunting and good luck.

A prayer indeed although I think Toad and his Dad have proven G-D doesn't listen to such avaricious prayers.

I prayed and prayed and prayed some more.

He still came back.

Why wasn't the Hoffman crew regularly sampling the raw paydirt as they were digging? Considering the cost of fuel, maintenance, and supplies in the Far North, moving that much material to recover a couple of dollars per ton was quite a waste.

Cause the only person with ANY common sense left, that being Freddy Dodge.

Well thanks Jason, now I have a mental image of Todd trying to wiggle into a wetsuit to dredge your spot! Now I'm going to have to look at a lot of gold porn to try and wipe that image out

Just make sure that you keep your food safely locked up with Todd around your area. :laughing7:

I've made an interactive 3D map of the Hoffman mining lease in Fairplay Colorado. There are two versions of the map A very LARGE one that runs about 30 Mb download and a much smaller one that's about 3.5 Mb.

LARGE 3D Map

small 3D Map

The Hoffman lease is called the Katuska pit.
It's about 8 acres of private property.
It has been permitted as a sand and gravel operation by the State of Colorado since 1991

While you are viewing the map click on the mine area outlined in red. A window will pop up with links to information about the geology of the placers from the Land Matters Library and a link to the sand and gravel permit report from the State of Colorado.

Use your mouse to move around the map. Scroll to move in and out or get dizzy by typing an "r" to make the map spin.

Any gold at the property Clay?

I imagine there was some gold at one time.

Those 8 acres are on the tailings from a major bucket chain dredge operation. The "mine" is permitted for construction material and has been worked for the sand and gravel since at least 1991. It wouldn't surprise me if they could find a little color in that gravel but as you can see from the map it's already been worked pretty hard for a long time. Paying gravel is a long shot at best.

Thanks Clay! I am sure it will be "entertaining" as usual.
