After a long weekend of coaching soccer I managed to get out for a hunt. While walking to the main site I decided to swing through what had always seemed to be a modern trashy area. First signal, gold Victoria head was looking back at me!
It’s a Newfoundland 2$ gold coin turned into a love token. The condition held up very well being on a salt water beach for about 100 years! As the date is gone, it can be narrowed down to either 1882 or 1888 as it is the ntd3 variety.
My first gold coin and I’m still shocked where it was found!

Looks like the engraving is WBC? Extremely cool find, congrats on your first gold coin!!

That's outstanding! The only gold to ever circulate in Canada..m

Canada had $5 gold and I have seen worn examples - so they did circulate. Considering that Canada was colonized longer than the lower 48, I'd expect both more variety and older foreign gold to have circulated in Canada.

Banner all day ..congrats..vote going in..

It's always nice to see someone find a gold coin, especially when it's their first one. It's one of those finds we all dream of making. And the personalized engraving makes it even more cool. Grats on adding it to your collection! Definitely worth a vote for banner

Congrats on an excellent find. The love token part of the equation just makes it that much better. I agree with the Professor, it looks like it may have been fashioned to be a button.

Great find! I dream of finding my first gold coin, it's at the top of my bucket list. (Well maybe a full jar of gold coins sits at top but let's not be greedy.) Putting in my banner vote now. Again, congratulations!

congrats on banner

Yes, there were also 10 dollar coins too to go along with those 5s in the years 1912 to 1914. The total mintage was small of about 600,000 for both denominations, in all three years.

The newfoundland pieces were produced in very small numbers too, less than 100,000 total over the 8 different years. Pretty scarce gold coins.
Great find congrats on the banner.

Wow, awesome looking coin. 16 years in the hobby and i have only found a few gold rings and such....don't think I'll ever find a coin. I just don't put myself on the sites that give me a chance but man, would I ever love to find one. Great job brother!

Congratulations on your gold coin 'Love Token' find Todd!!! :occasion14:

I never even knew that NFLD had produced a gold coin... just amazing details!
