So my dad wakes me up early this morning and says "come take a ride with me" seems he made a deal with A lady to buy and clean out her basement full of ham radio equipment for $500.00. So after a 2 hour ride we arrive at the womans house, she takes us down to a small room in her basement and says " I just want to clean this room out, so anything you find you can have. So after about 10 mins of digging thru boxes my dad hands me a box that says "COINAGE" and says ...heres a box for you!!!, so right away i fold it back up and run it up to the truck. WOW!! was i surprised when i got home and checked them out. Full books of quarters, nickels, dimes, franklins, kennedy halves, buffs, state quarters, quarter proof sets, sags, and silver eagles, and some little safe full of regular clad. My dad didnt mind at all, he picked up about 5 good radios and equipment thats worth about 5 grand. I also managed to get a full box of fishing lures, new fly pole and reel....
hope you all enjoy the pictures,
Pro-

Thanks for the replys, it was my find find for the day, so i decided to show it off, a few mixed reactions...but thats ok, There are some nice coins here, some very nice silver sets also. I have a feeling these were left here while other sets were taken. No mercs and no pre 65 quarters, ....why only collect buffalo`s, rosies, and halves?....just seems odd...She sold all the husbands craftsman tools to another guy just the week before ,lol...So...who knows,.....All I can do is respect the past owner and add to the sets as time goes on. Im sure he would want them to go to someone who would appreciate them, instead of someone cashing them in for a quick buck.

do you have a 1995 w there in the dollar folder? if you do look up the price for it you will be surprised. willy.

Congrats, that's one very nice collection.

So does this mean you're done detecting? LOL.. .you got just about every coin you need that's anywhere from difficult to easy to get through metal detecting or coin roll hunting. Now you have to try to find the REALLY difficult ones, like the barbers and seated. Good luck you lucky son of a :)

Naa he's not done detecting, it's just started..just think of the test patterns he'll have now. a coin will not have a chance now in his neck of the woods LOL

good lick!

I would have to agree. Women can be very ruthless. and their's No Holds Bar when it comes to Hobbies. That's where it hurts us the most..

Nice pick-up and glad you came out of it alive (So Far) Cross your fingers!!!!! 8)

Done detecting? ....not me!...this score just about doubled my collection. one can never have too much silver, lol. last night I counted up all the halves and dollars. It came out to $120.00 face value.

here are some of the totals

American eagle silver dollars 22
Walker halfs 49
franklin halfs 35
Sacagawea 14
Kennedy halfs 81
Buffalo nickels 64

hubbie is dead (accident in the home you say?fell down the stairs / hit his head or something like that? :violent1: ) -- the insurance policy has paid off -- so she is set up nicely fiscally ---so out goes his "toys" time to get rid of his "man" stuff and hobby gear in the basement -- fishing gear -- ham radios and such ( I'm quite sure she didn't know the total extent of his coin collection (money) down there other wise she would have cut it out of "the junk" as most women think of mens hobby "stuff" ( you said that she said she had already nosed around down there to see if she could find anything of "value" to her--- thus she most likely found his older coins -- the morgans and mercs and such and thought she had em all ) the "newer stuff" in the box ya'll found was most likely "buried" under other stuff and thus I do not think that she ran across that box of silver coins and left them down there on purpose --since it makes no sense at all to sell the silver coins along with the other stuff for $500 --since the "melt" value of the silver coins alone are worth more than $500 and even at the "face value" of $120 is almost 1 /4th the total of $500) -- however since her hubby is gone now ,and she thought she had "cherry picked" thru the stuff down there (or thought she had)--- she now wanted HER basement "cleaned out" of all of HIS "junk" stuff , ok so be it. --- you paid $500.00 for a "pig in a poke" not knowing exactly what all you would find OR get -- you in effect "bought all the contents of the room " which had to be moved out of it --- be it trash or treasure --when you do that once in a while you get some treasure (lots of time you just get to clean out a lot of trash)-- so be it.

Words can't describe the luck that you had that day.Congrats!!!!!!
You only did what that lady asked of you.Job well done.

You have a great Dad for sure and he did find an awesome haul of treasure! The coin collection is very nice. The hamm radio equipment is also nice. I hope he got a nice Yaesuh or a Kenwood radio from the pile. Does your Dad do anything with the MARS radio stations? MARS=Military Affiliate Radio Station. I was call sign AEM1VLK in 1989 when Gulf War I took off. HH, Mike

He did, he picked up a whole Yaesuh station, and a few nice little hand held Kenwoods. He isnt really into it with the mars network like he used to be, he has a few friends he chats with on 80 meters and is mostly into wheeling and dealing at ham fests and on ebay, his antennas sometimes give me false signals when im detecting the back yard,
but i guess youll have that.

Let me first say, you did very well, and most likely, did the lady a favor. Not all collectors collect every denomination series out there. Personally, I collect uncirculated Red Wheaties (unless it is a dug coin under my coil). I have no desire to collect morgans, franklins, proofs, American Eagles, gold coins, Large Cents, buffalos, etc), it is very feasible that these were his denomination series of choice. It is a nice collection and a very nice find indeed
