I lucked out and was able to get 3.5 hours or hunting in today so I went back to the castle house. With snow on the ground I was wooed to the sunny part of the property, which was also the MUDDY side of the property. I was a mess. I wandered over to the front lawn which was sunny and not muddy. Much more pleasurable. After digging my 4th or 5th piece of foil, I was about to ignore those signals. I said, "this is my last foil signal I'm digging." It was tough to pinpoint, but I found this little eagle crest (flat back, and photo also shown in my hand so you can see how small it is). NJLARGECENT seems to think it's off a military hat, but I'm not sure. Any ideas?

I also found these floral pieces (middle one looks like a pin of some sort). All three were found next to each other.

Tag from Spratt's Patent Limited, the first major dog biscuit manufacturer in the US, circa 1880-1885 (in 1885 they moved to NJ)

Found this really heavy egg shaped thing that rang up as a penny :dontknow:

And some psych-outs: what I thought was a thimble but is a light bulb, what I thought was a gold earring but is a rivet, and this other patented piece which is a part from a air sprayer.

And finally, 3 wheats and 2 memorials.

Way to go. Diggem all

a day without pull tabs is like a day without sunshine.

Some nice old relics .. :occasion14:

Good stuff.

Great finds!

Can't tell you how many times I've said to myself, "Last foil target! From here out, nothing but quarter hits!" Then, just one more, one more, one more, etc. LOL

HH!

Lol, so true.

I wish I could go out but the ground is rock hard here.

I'm on a roll..................foil 127....rings.... 0

i give you credit for going out considering how cold it is, good finds

It actually wasn't too bad. My hands got cold while I was in the shaded area, but the sunny part was fine... except the mud. I have rubberized pants I tried out for the first time by Helley Hansen (only $22 at Amazon). They did the trick by keeping me nice and dry. Some parts of the lawn I had to push through the top part of the soil and it was tough, but once through the blade went in nicely. Other parts I had to apply hardly any pressure. Go figure.

Nice digs!! Congratulations:icon_thumright:

Will beach detecting be your main focus? Or just a sometimes excursion? For detectors that aren't meant for salt water, I've turned my sensitivity down a bit and have had good results. But if all you're going to do is hit the beach, you may want a salt-water specific machine.
