A while ago when I researched this Terra Preta thing I have read an article about one of the first conquistador (forgotten his name) who travel along the entire amazon and he reported that there was living about 20 Million people along the Amazon alone. Most historians didn´t believe that story until now when they found with the new laser scanning method uncountable sites of large villages along the amazon. Biologists and archeologists also found huge fields there with this human made and very effective Terra Preta soil. Anyway, all this 20 million people there was wiped out by small pocks!
