Try putting down a heavy layer of mulch could be dried grass clippings, wood chips or even cardboard between the rows. That should help suppress weeds, hold moisture and will break down and provide compost over time.
That will work out fine, it will take a few weeks to cook them.
Remember nature doesn't like a void-so the weeds will come back.
You could put in a cover crop.

Nice pic. We're just starting to get a few Monarchs this way. Hopefully my sunflowers and other assorted stuff will be up and flowering by the time they arrive.
