Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
I have read and reread the dogone manual a dozen times and still cant figure out what the heck I'm doing wrong. I can't seem to even find and modern coins (pennies or clad). I went to a park across from a middle school and there is a pedestrian tunnel going under the road. I thought surely I would find at least a couple of pennies. Got all kinds of beeps but when I dig there is nothing. Went to a ghost town site over the weekend and all I found was a rusted iron ring about two inches around. Went to an empty lot where a carnival had set up a few weeks ago and came home with a screw base for a miniature light bulb.
If someone in the Colorado Springs area would please help me figure out what I'm doing wrong it would be greatly appreciated. ???
I am trying to use a Bounty Hunter Landstar.

thanks for taking the time to read my rants, lol

Wow:

A lot of emotions in this post. Does anyone remember the first time out with a golf club or a tennis racquet? I remember my first time golfing. I couldn't even hit the ball off the tee. When I finally got that down I couldn't hit the ball in the air. I am still a terrible golfer, but only because I don't golf regularly.

Metal detecting is the same as golf, tennis or any other activity. It takes practice. It takes patience. But once you get the hang of it, you will return to places that had nothing but junk and you will find treasure. Take my advice. Just last week I found a colonial copper at a site I detected years ago and found nothing. I also found two silver "Rosies" less than 20 feet from my back door. I don't know how I could have missed these before.

My advice is to take a quarter, two pennies (one copper, one zinc), a nickel, a pulltab and an old bottle cap. Bury them about 18 inches apart, about 4 inches down. Mark the spots with a sticker or other nonmetallic marker. Then sweep over the targets. Make notes in a notebook on signal reading & depth. Pay close attention to your technique. Your swing must keep the coil parallel to the ground. Most importantly, make sure your sensitivity is not too high!!!! Having the sensitivity on a setting that is too high will cause "falsing" and you will spend a lot of time digging targets that do not exist.

Now go back and read the manual. I re-read my manual just last week. I always pick up a new tip about settings from reading and re-reading it.

Be Patient. In a few weeks you may have one of your finds on the banner of this forum!!!

Keep us all posted on your progress!!!

sounds to me like your having trouble pinpointing if it beeps theres something there, I also suggest spending a little extra and buy a handheld pinpointer , they are well worth the investment. find one coin and youll be hooked for sure!!
