I have read and reread the dogone manual a dozen times and still cant figure out what the heck I'm doing wrong. I can't seem to even find and modern coins (pennies or clad). I went to a park across from a middle school and there is a pedestrian tunnel going under the road. I thought surely I would find at least a couple of pennies. Got all kinds of beeps but when I dig there is nothing. Went to a ghost town site over the weekend and all I found was a rusted iron ring about two inches around. Went to an empty lot where a carnival had set up a few weeks ago and came home with a screw base for a miniature light bulb.
If someone in the Colorado Springs area would please help me figure out what I'm doing wrong it would be greatly appreciated. ???
I am trying to use a Bounty Hunter Landstar.
you can email me at [email protected]
thanks for taking the time to read my rants, lol

Don't give up! You'll get it! Good advice from Mrs O too!

Nana :)

Tried that with coins and my wedding band, but I still can't figure it out. I know it just has to be a matter of correct adjustment. I hope.

I agree with the others. Work it out in your yard before heading out for a hunt. Some manuals can be a bit confusing and you have to kind of read between the lines. I don't know your machine, but I would start by getting the ground balance down first, then work on the sensitivity and discrimination. Sometimes you just have to experiment a little before you understand what the manual is trying to tell you. Get it to work in your yard and you ought to do fine in the field. Hope this helps.

??? I know the feeling! I use to have a bounty hunter 202. After it landed about 30 feet from where i was standing. I saved up and bought my DFX. I was very disappointed when i took it to the beach and every two feet it sounded off with hope. Only to find sand.

I'm new to the hobby myself and the learning curve can be rough, I get frustrated almost everyday but somedays are better and I'm learning my machine. It will take time, I thought I would go out and find captain kidds treasure this past weekend =)
Maybe the fact I dug up 20 aluminum cans was just training on what NOT to dig...
I will keep trying too.
Best of luck to you

I have one.... set disc at 2:30 and sens at 1 O'Clock

landstar.jpg

try that

try it both in notch and disc mode same setting

look for a solid tone as you go back and forth...side to side and the target id stays the same. make a plus sign as you narrow it down and where the lines intersect make a visual marker and go for it, check the dirt you remove as you dig ... I always took a handfull and waved it past the coil... just make sure you don't have a ring on when you do that

also if you are serious ... invest in a pinpointer... I never thought I needed one.... but one came with my new machine and man..... i don't know what i ever did without it. I have the white's bullseye 2 and it really helps make quick work of digging.....

that bounty hunter is a nice machine and you will find coins... I have proof if you want to see it I found my first barbers with it, a half and dime, loads of mercs, lots of silver, wheats

let us know how you make out...

I am new at detecting also. I myself own a bounty hunter tracker II. Believe it or not i did not know what i was doing in the beginning but thanks to this forum. After reading lots of there post i finally got the guts to go into my yard and listen to my detector the different sounds it would make and i would start to compare the sounds. And then i started to dig and i found a mercury dime 1917. The very next day was a silver quarter 1944. I was astonished. I also found weird things that i have never seen not worth a dime but it interest me, so i dug. Don't give up sooner or later once you get to know your MD you will have great findings. Good luck a happy hunting's!!

I can't add anything to what has already been said. Are you hunting by yourself? Check around there must be a club near by that you could join, well worth the time and the help they will give you will be worth millions in its self. Also look in the Yellow Pages any MD dealer worth his salt will help you out even if he/she didn't sell you the BH. Good luck and don't give up.

If you lay coins on the ground and it doesnt beep then you have your discrimination set to far to the right. If it beeps all the time without rhyme or reason then you have your sens too high. If neither of these are the case then you have a bad detector which I seriously doubt. Keep reading the forum and practice in your yard until you get better with the machine, dig signals that repeat the same sound/id that seem to be about the size of a coin, not breat big signals that are as big as a hubcap. Also practice digging nice neat holes, that is the number one complaint people have with MD and if everyone would do a better job digging holes a lot more areas could open up for MD,HH...Shoot

i have a bh lone star and it works great on coins. go in your yark and check an area to be sure your detector makes NO sounds. in that area place a couple of pennies about 5-6 feet apart and mark with a small stick. with your detector set up like in the above post walk away from the pennies about 15 feet and start swinging the detector then go right over the penny. what did your detector tell you? if it found it go for the next penny. then do the same thing with nickels and dimes and quarters. If you find the penny make the X over it and see if it is in the center hole on the coil.

Wait till you get the "guts" to leave your yard! ;)

I have a cz-5,which I purchased new.It was driving me crazy and was doing a lot of the same things you have experienced.I sent it back to the factory where they found that the coil was damaged. they replaced it and now it works fine. Good luck with getting to know your detector!

maybe take up fishing :P kidding stick with it ;)

if it don't pick up the nickel don't worry you need to set the disc to 12 oclock..

btw you still here?

I know one thing. You certainly can;t beat the advice given here for free! Keep on working that thing out and show us some soon to be had great finds!

Best o' luck
