Gary Drayton , what’s the deal with this guy

For a moment picture yourself saying to follow my dreams I have to relocate to another country..I imagine that’s a tough task to consider..but remember it’s your attitude at the beginning of a difficult task which more than anything else will affect its successful outcome and that is what Gary Drayton did...

I've seen some discussion that he doesn't dig because the show wants someone else digging since the interaction makes for better TV. I say hats off to the guy. He's having a blast doing what he loves and he's found a fortune worth of jewelry, coins, etc. (not on the TV show but during his personal detecting time). Although I think some of the things he has found on the show are pretty damn cool. I've exchanged a couple of messages with him and agree with some others, he is as down to earth as it gets. As I think Terry said, what he has found and his skill speak for themselves.

Good idea people, how can we turn this into a part time job, or more. Work free first to get started then offer your services for lost and dislocated items, great idea, what’s the ideal presentation, thanks
i wrote an article here that talks about making money off hobby

That’s a shame, a lot of us could learn from someone with his experience. Why criticize someone who’s doing what most of us would love to do? He is a professional and an ambassador of this hobby...I say good for him! Hope to meet him sometime. HH

he was being attacked by veteran hunters here and dropped out

When one succeeds at anything they should expect the haters, and non believers to raise there nasty voices in all manners of discouraging and disparaging remarks. It is a way for the envious, and jealous hunters to feel better about what they may view as there own failings. I've had child hood friends respond to my success with comments like "damn it man" !! They are not happy for me they are mad that they missed there chance at the booty !! Others have told me how wrong it was of me not to invite them down to hunt when I'm finding treasure. So I luck into some finds and im supposed to stop everything and invite all my hunting buddies down to pick up all the treasures that I've spent so much time tracking down and researching !! Many people I've taken on hunts have succeeded in finding and recovering treasure.....I still want the pic with the treasure, because I still consider it my treasure....if I didn't get you up make all the plans do all the research and hold your hand and lead them to the correct spot they would have nothing !! The coin you did pic up would most certainly be mine if you wernt there by my good will. There will always be haters...how many hate you will be a mark of your success. They will pick at every aspect of your hunting from the way you swing, to the machine you use, to even the way you look or the style of your haircut !! They will never mention your successes, and when they pick on the way you walk, or the way you look, you can rest assured that they are jealous of your success. Always gonna be haters if you continue to succeed !! Relish in the hateful comments and realize they are the biggest form of flattery. Once every one realizes this ain't about " i found better stuff, and more of it than you" thats when success will bless you....when your doing what is good for you and not worrying what Gary Drayton is doing !! I hope he has continued success with his career !! He's a good spanish tracker !!

From the article:

He added: “In other words, some have dated it to as old as 900 AD, some have said 1300 AD, and if it is in that neighborhood, it could very well have been left behind by a Templar and that might be some kind of evidence that they did come to North America years before Columbus. If they did, what did they bring and why?”

Not necessarily. Even if it is Templar in origin, it may have been dropped there by someone long after the date it was made.

As a related example, years ago when I was little, a family member brought me back an ancient Greek coin they picked up while on vacation there. Sometime after that, I lost it in my yard. If someone were to dig up that coin in the yard of where I lived in South Carolina, would they assume that the ancient Greeks had made their way to mid-state South Carolina over 2000 years ago?

Oh Christopher Columbus is a theory in school books, matter of fact he’s not even close to being the first to discover America, I wish dam schools would stop or revise history enough of this malarkey

My point was that Gary found something truly interesting on Oak Island, a genuine relic of foreign origin.

My point was not that the relic had anything to do with Templars or a supposed treasure on Oak Island.

The key word in the statement that you quoted was 'significant'. A genuine relic of foreign origin may be truly interesting according to your latest post, but its "significance" would be in its relationship to the island.

If I was going to be pedantic about it, I'd say that such an out of place artifact is significant. It's significant, because it's unusual in its place of recovery, and because of its chronological origin. The lead cross's presence indicates some sort of unique event brought it to Oak Island. In this regard, Gary found something significant on Oak Island. That said, there's no reason to believe this significance correlates whatsoever with treasure legends. At present we have no idea how this artifact arrived on the island. Ergo, do I believe Gary found something of significance on Oak Island? Yes. Does it have anything to do with money pits and Templars? I don't know, ask the aliens and Captain Kidd.

Bart,Yes indeed in these difficult times we face now, your Positive comments bring joy my friend

When Gary first appeared on the show, I googled him and found his website where he described himself as a "metal detecting ninja".. .I have to say fellow Brit or not, my first thoughts regarding that phrase were not kind. Looking around his website, he also came across as over hyping himself, which again I did not care for...

Since then though, his presence on the show has grown on me...I now think he is a strong enough character that he could do a stand alone metal detecting show and it would be quite watchable if done right..

What infuriates me about the show is that when they send Gary off to do some detecting, as soon as he finds something, he packs up and heads back to the others to share the find instead of carrying on detecting...I realise that is simply how the Producers want things to happen, but it always bugs me lol

Yes I'm no Fan of the phrase "Ninja" let alone the Ego needed to describe ones Self as a "Ninja" :laughing7:
But Takes all Kinds to Make up the World :tongue3:

The fact he Stops as soon as He finds one Keeper, And the Fact he immediately Acts like it's hundreds of Years old and Proves there was
Certain People There Burying Treasure, and always at the necessary Time.
is one of the main reasons I Stopped watching the Show. Entirely too unbelievable !

& Yes ^&%$# Producers / writers satisfying their Advertisers by directing how things must go down :coffee2:
I Wouldn't be surprised if the Producers Buy things off EBay & Tell them when to Find them in the dirt
