I have a 15 year old Garrett that sounded off while searching around thick grass. It was aggravating because I'd think it found something. I think that when the coil was built, I think they put spray foam inside the coil. Over the years, the foam got rotted I guess, & the wires could move around, fooling the detector. A new coil fixed it anyway...
