Garrett AT Pro

Don't listen to sandman on AT Pro. I caught him stating "facts" about the machine in another thread and corrected him as he was 100% wrong and he had to eat crow admitting he didn't know what he was talking about. Not sure why the guy hates.
sandman got a bad one and had problems he just doesn't like the single freq machines for salt water. He does give the machine good reviews for fresh water and coins.

Unless they sent them in to have them "upgraded" to the new version. The new Garrett AT Pro is solid. For the $, it can not be beat for features and performance. I think Sandman is just having fun with you guys. He is a good guy and helps lots of people with questions. Lets all go have a beer and tell detecting stories! :occasion14:
ill have an old mil light lol I'm cheap.

Yeah guys, I rag on detectors sometimes just like I would rag on a buddies hunting dog or choice of deer rifles. I just want ppl to check out all the detectors to compare features. But some guys are to serious about taking showers with the ATP.

I have the AT Pro with the stock coil , the 5x8, the sniper and also the Nel hunter coil. The stock and the 5x8 coils are stable in most sports grounds and fresh water beaches at full sensitivity apart from some sites that have EMI ,and it has to be pretty bad to unsettle the machine. Wet salt sand is another story (as with many VLF detectors). Some beaches you can detect pretty quietly and others, well, I can only handle so much chatter and I give up on them.
Back to your original question, Ive never owned the ace 350 but briefly owned the ace 250 and the ATPro is a good size step up from this. Apart from the other features that everyone has mentioned, to me one of the most under-rated features is the iron-audio. Spend some time on it and you begin to realize that it is far more than just an iron check.

Sandman you just enjoy stirring up crap. You love to see what response you get. I think this is your amusement for the day. You know most of the people on the garret forum are ATP lovers and you just like to stir the pot.

My AT Pro was taken care of by Garrett a long time ago as Garrett's customer service is top notch. I am just wondering if you guys are going to feel the same about the ATP II?

As for how to tell the differences between the first production ATP's and the rock solid steady ones has to do with the SS numbers which I can't remember now. You could order the newer cam locks for installing on the older ATP's. FYI ebay buyers. Only buy new from a dealer.

The first production run had a small percentage of bad units ship which were all fixed by now and its a non issue two years later. I have a very early serial number atpro march 2010. It works the same as the ones that come off the line today which is splendidly. Remember the F75 fiasco when they first came out? Fisher fixed that by dumbing down the units and not taking care of the customer. That's why I have an atpro. :sign10:

I am glad some of you guys understand this forum is for entertainment and some posts like mine bring you back to view everyone's response. I like my ATP but it is not the go to detector for me as I am a major water hunter and to great with other units which of course are more $$$. But for the price the ATP is a nice step up from the entry level Garrett line up. Which Detector.jpg

Every time I see that Sandman has posted on a Garrett thread, I hear the Enter Sandman intro by Metallica... Seriously though, he is the balance that every forum needs. My ATP works great for what I need it to do. I live in the beautiful land locked province of Saskatchewan Canada, and all we have here are fresh water lakes and rich, dark soil. Perfect conditions for the ATP, and I see no need to buy a more expensive PI machine.

Sandman,

I would like your thoughts on something. You say that the Tejon is more stable then the AT Pro. Do you mean on saltwater beaches? I don't intend to do any beach searching anytime soon, but would the Vanquero be a better choice for doing this then the AT Pro?

The early production models started with serial number 500. The cam locked shafts were added as an upgrade initially - $75 got you cam locks, a longer shaft for better ergonomics, upgraded software, extended warranty and a coil repair or swap if necessary. All new production after the upgrade announcement had the cam locks and longer rod installed.

Dealers sell middle rods with cam locks to replace the old ones, so just because it has cam locks doesn't mean it's a newer unit. Not all of the first generation units had problems - the main problem was a coil that sometimes sounded off when the rod was twisted in the air or bumped into bushes.

Being a rookie I very much appreciate Sandmans take, especially upon learning a bit about his personality! I am certain the AT Pro is the wise choice for my wife's first machine. When I add a second for myself I will certainly turn to Sandman ( and of course Bart) for advice. Our hunting will be mostly around farms and homesteads here in Texas with a couple of trips a year to Galveston, no other beach, just Texas coast. Price range for second machine will be in 1500.00 range. Dazzle me Sandman!

I just bought an ATP today. I read review upon review and opinion after opinion and it led me to the ATP, (I guess I didn't read Sandmans opinion) and mine has the cam locks.
I used it today and WOW! I got lucky and pulled out a dime from about 6". My first dime!!!!
I'm very happy with my first time out with it and am like a little kid on Christmas Eve as I can't wait until morning!!!!

Many folks like the PI machines best for salt so they can take on any salt beach they choose........many folks like the ta pro for its three tone, iron audio, notch capability and waterproof-ness.
Sure there are other brands and types, but try to find a waterproof unit with all the features the atp has for the same money.........NO CAN DO!!!!!!!
