Garrett AT Pro

Talking about "dumbed down" ... your dumbed down comment as a general statement about the ATP is totally dumbed up. Maybe you should ask the poster of this thread what their intentions are with the ATP before you make dumbed up comments. For a mid-priced all around waterproof unit, the ATP works great in SoCal saltwater and everywhere else I have used it. It appears others have commented to this thread have no problem with SW either. Not everyone will be MD-ing in the Great Salt Lake, Salton Sea or Dead Sea as you must be referring to.
When Garrett first brought out the AT PRO it beeped while it was being held still, beeped in the air no matter what freq it was set at, moved coil or not. It picked up EMI fields like a cheap radio. But you were lucky and got your ATP AFTER Garrett fixed the problem. This is not a dumbed up or down comment. Maybe it is you that should get their facts straight before posting without learning how detectors work in other parts of the world.

So why do you still get on and bash the at pro on theses threads when someone is wanting to buy one or just got one. They fixed the problem my pro works great compared to my 350. I didn't have a bunch of money to buy a detector but I wanted an upgrade so I went with the pro. I almost got the gold but no regrets at all. I know you have more experience than I do but I love this hobby and I'm not going anywhere. I was not one of those guys who bought the pro because of a tv show. I've been wanting to get into metal detecting for years and get out every chance I get. I do it for the history I dig up but silver coins are fun to dig up also. In my opinion the pro is a great detector for someone serious about detecting. If your not sure go buy a 100 dollar unit and see if you like it. Good luck everyone and keep saving history from the ground.

I use the ace350 and have been considering the upgrade to the at pro.
What I would like to see/selling point for me,would be someone with the at pro go over the spots I have pounded hard just to see what I missed.
Anyone have input/experience on this?

Call Bart at BigBoysHobbies.net He will tell you the difference and won't steer you wrong nor will he try and talk you into anything. If you buy one Bart has the best deals for an ATP and super fast shipping.

i have done this and have pulled silver dimes and Indian head pennies from same places I've hunted with the 350. I went under a close line in my yard almost every time I hunted my yard and never found anything there with 350. I took pro there when I got it and found mercs, wheats and one Indian head penny. They were all 6 inches or more deep. I don't know if 350 was giving me a don't dig tone or what but with the pro they came in clear and knew it was a coin or ring.

Clothes not close lol darn phone

Thank you for your reply Kodiak.
Thats the type of examples im curious about.

Who cares what a new product did when it first came out. Get out of the past Sandman!! Nobody cares at this point, move on and quit living and writing in the past. Jeez!!
Okay, you comments from the past were not dumbed up or down ... there just dumb at this point :)

Oh! One more thing Sandman. I don't see you giving negitive comments to Bart when Bart talks about the AT Pro. Oh! That's Right ... you give Thumbs Up instead. See how you are!!

Theoretically if a guy was to come across a deal on a used at pro,how does one distinguish between the old or the improved unit?

i believe the new units have cam locks on the shaft and old ones didn't.

I have an ATPro, I believe if you get one, read the manual closely, spend the time to learn it, you'll really enjoy it! Or you can pay $2500 for one and find the same can slaw and beavertails we all do with maybe an inch more depth...maybe. I also have an f2 which is a big-time FUN machine which some folks would also look down on. All depends on what your detecting desires are.

SoCalBeachScanner, Bart is a trusted detectorist that doesn't tell falsehoods to customers when they ask him for advice on which detector suits their needs just to make a sale. He handles all brands but I think Tesoro. I don't give negative comments to anyone. Would you like me to give you a thumbs Up? Bart knows his detectors and the hobby very well just like many of us here in this forum. Good luck to you no matter what detector you like to swing. Just try to have fun.

A small percentage of early atpros had bad components or quality issues. Some units shipped bad. Mine came fu#%ed up too. Right out of the box the pp did not work. I got a new one with a phone call in 6 days. Garrett never published the smoking gun but everyone guessed. Some say it was camlocks which is laughable. Some say it is the was the way you wrap the coil which is laughable. A lot say it was a coil issue which is plausible. Garrett did not dumb down the circuit to "fix" the problem. The problem had nothing to do with dumbing up or bumbazzing down anything. Garrett fixed the problem and they took care of each and every customer. Every one of them. Except Sandman.

Ive only used my new at pro twice...im not an expert detectorist....I have 4 other detectors including a xterra 505......but heres what I do know about the at pro.....the other day in hard dry clay It hit hard on a dime and that dime was 10 + inches down.....I was very impressed with that
I need you to follow along behind me; dang ATP detects deeper than my patients to tunnel down.....

My AT Pro was taken care of by Garrett a long time ago as Garrett's customer service is top notch. I am just wondering if you guys are going to feel the same about the ATP II?

As for how to tell the differences between the first production ATP's and the rock solid steady ones has to do with the SS numbers which I can't remember now. You could order the newer cam locks for installing on the older ATP's. FYI ebay buyers. Only buy new from a dealer.

Who has heard anything about a at pro II??

I received a couple emails from users on other forums about this but I have no idea what their connections are IF ANY. I am just wanting a beer spigot. Garrett won't let it leak about anything in the works and the best bet is John E. on this sub forum. I am hoping to get a ATX even though I like my Sand Shark. I like the way the ATX folds down.

Unless they sent them in to have them "upgraded" to the new version. The new Garrett AT Pro is solid. For the $, it can not be beat for features and performance.

I think Sandman is just having fun with you guys. He is a good guy and helps lots of people with questions. Lets all go have a beer and tell detecting stories! :occasion14:
