Thanks I keep looking.

Looks like the bottom of a valve we used to use to check the freon level in a sealed system. Kinda like this one.
Piece at bottom right of parts.

What you have is the coin hole cover for a vintage cast iron bank. The wings on the side fit in the opening wings on the bank, and you twist it to lock it in place. There are no threads on hole in the bottom of the bank, it stays in place via the 'wings.' Neat find :icon_thumleft: Breezie

Its hard to find a matching pic for a toy money box coin hole cover because there are many types. One bottom hole cover is patented and marked: PATd Feb 2 1875.

I can see how this could be possible and maybe an ID.

Ckeck out the following patent drawing. This is not the exact one, but it's close.
Look at the side that's circled in red.

It sure looked like a gate valve on one side when you first mentioned it vhs07 but now I am convinced. I agree. The IDs here just keep getting better. :notworthy: :notworthy:

BTW for those that dont know, its the inside of a water shut-off valve and its brass.

Of course, it would need a way to attach it to the stem. Does it have anything like that?

That was what I first thought but if you study the patent diagram posted by vhs07 you will see that it simply slips inside and is held in place by the dimples. Its a tremendous ID and no doubt about it IMO. Green check.

Being in the scrap metals business, I see these quite often.
I replace/repair gate valves quite often as an ex building maintenance man but I was originally thinking like Dave. I thought it needed a threaded attachment hole. The patent you posted explains it very clearly. Apparenty its a replaceable gate and this type of valve should be used more often today.

I bet you find some cool stuff.

Are these valves as thick as the one BC has? At least I know I can go buy a coin closure for my cast iron bank! LOL Hopefully they come in various diameters. Breezie

Yes they are thick and they are solid brass. The picture I posted is the threaded stem type. You would have to dissassemble a valve.

The type vhs07 posted in the 1901 patent maybe can be bought seperately but I think its an old style that isnt used anymore. :dontknow: He said he sees them at his scrap metal business. You may be able to file them down to fit there should be several sizes. :dontknow:

Well I have looked at all the post. The gate valve is looking good. I have a problem with the way it would attach to the threads,or even be held in place. There aren't any groves or recesses. The metal is a correct match and it surely looks the part.I am going to electrocute it and see if there any further details. BCNJ

I tried to explain to Dave that it does not attach with threads, it simply floats inside, the dimples holding it in place.
