pardon my ignorance but what the hell is it

A mace was a weapon - some were mounted to a chain attached to a heavy wood handle and swung - some were mounted directly to the end of a club. Either way, you were a goner if on the receiving end of the blow... :icon_sunny:

Super find by the way!

Awesome find!! Is that a coin?

Wowzers! Truley amazing.

See the last pic where he sizes it with a U.S. penny? I am surprised that the mace head seems so small. I always imagined them larger for some reason.

Awesome digs! That'll clear up some pests for you!

Super find and the first I have seen found! Congrats, it sure is a beauty, I added that to my things I want to find list. HH, Mike

Me too! Then again, if it's bronze, it's still going to be about the weight of an average claw hammer head. And it would be so much easier to swing than a grapefruit-sized hunk of bronze.

Always wear your helmet into battle.

Very nice dig Garryson ... you just never know what will be in the next hole you dig ... congratz on an amazing discovery!

What great history!! WTG!!

Incredible find, Garryson. CONGRATULATIONS

 RR

Congratulations on both the find & making the banner, well deserved!
