Hey guys, today started out miserably cold but I Just had to get out, Ive only been out once this year so far and it did nothing for my itch for old coins/relics, so I headed out to my cornfield and it was cooooooold to start: IMG_20140317_093009.jpg on my way up the thermometer went as low as 19 and I thought, I don't care im going anyway lol. Only was there 2 hrs and managed about 10-11 targets and I had to work for every one of them as the ground was frozen solid under those corn stalks, dug a few pieces of lead, a few small buttons, some square nails and then FINALLY, a nice high repeatable 90-91 on the atpro, turns out it was a 1848 large cent with pretty nice detail :headbang: first LC of 2014!, it was about 4" down and I have no idea how I didn't hit it with my shovel considering I was pretty much scraping and chopping away at the ground to get it, anyhow, needless to say I was pretty pumped so I rushed to my car to get my cellphone to get a few shots of it fresh out of the ground,IMG_20140317_113206.jpgIMG_20140317_113142.jpgIMG_20140317_130832.jpg after that I had a nice high tone 88-91 and I tried to live dig it and it ended up being a junky piece of iron:laughing7:oh well maybe next time I can live dig a nice target, thanks for looking and HH!!

Nice payoff! Digging frozen is frustrating when you can't get to decent targets so I'm glad you could.

There must of been a house or something in that cornfield, those farmers are very careful with there change. Nice find, what does the back look like? I would have loved to of found those LC's, they have come out of the field in pretty nice shape for you. Congrats!

yeah I think I stumbled upon a house or old store site, lots of pottery shards around and square nails, anyway, heres a front and back pic of this one, its pretty good detail, but ive pulled nicer ones from thereSAM_0511.JPG

Your large cent is in excellent condition, compared to my 1852's. Good job!

Gotta find the "Micro Climates" (around rocks, foundations, etc.)

Lol funny u mention that, I would get thru the first inch n hit a pocket near a rock n that helped me pop out a 3 or 4 inch hunk of frozen dirt
