Found this today at a farm which was built in 1878. I know it is one part of a two part belt buckle, but I know nothing about it's age or type. I've seen Police and Fire buckles of similar vintage, and even Civil War types, but I'm clueless on this half.
Comments appreciated. Thanks.

I went back to the site and gridded it out, digging any target which could possibly be the other half, with negative results. So far I've gone about 50 feet in all directions, and I will continue to hunt the area for awhile. Thank you Johnnyi for the scan and the valuable info. I'm new to buckles and their manufacture and history, and comparing mine to the pics is a little confusing. The ribbons on mine are not rounded or flat, but have a slight "scallop" to them, and I don't know if when comparing them if this is important. If these are die struck could the detail change somewhat over the life of the die as it becomes worn? The pictures posted by Nova Treasure and TreasureDog do match pretty good.

Thank all of you for your input, I do appreciate it, and hopefully I'll get lucky, find the other half and we'll all know for sure..Thanks, Dennis

Whatever it is , still a good find.

Kruger has informed me that American Relic Hunters has a relic/bottle forum and I posted this info there.

It is because of the dedication and passion of Kruger and those like minded posters that these forums provide the wealth of information that they do, and my hat is off to all of you...

Thanks Possum,Im tryin'!!Keep finding the good stuff!!!
