I found this silver ring today and was not sure what the stone in it was its a little scratched up ????
My thinks it may be a Emerald cut aqua marine!!!! 925 silver band.

Just got back from the jewelers Got it cleaned up It is a 1.25 caret emerald cut Sky Blue Topaz

Jeweler think it was made in the 50's See post below explains where i found it and possibly who's it is

The jeweler who looked at it only used his eye's Maybe i need to take it to someone else and verify what it is!!!!!! Also the soil in my yard is very sandy.

You are quite right Eu my friend on the hardness I must have mistakenly taken the one above Topaz on the list which is Tanzanite which is 6.5-7.

Topaz is an 8 on the mohs scale....

I know that most quartz is listed as a 7 on the scale but I have just finished cutting several pieces of quartz (Herkimer Diamonds) that I swear are leaning into the 9 range they were really difficult to get cutting and to keep cutting.

I still like the idea the stone maybe Topaz.

Herkaimer Diamonds are crystals right?
Depending on the direction your cutting they can be harder of softer.. I remember that when I was working with a flat lap once...

You are right again Eu.. Herkimer Diamonds are just plain quartz crystals from Herkimer New York you think that being just quartz they would behave like regular quartz

trouble is I didn't find the soft side on these Herk's both were as tough and durable on all sides but even being that hard to cut they polished very nicely with Cerium Oxide which is very strange for they should have resisted polishing like a Ruby or a Saphire does when they cut that hard.

Well "regular" quartz has a massive habit.. Aka massive bits, no visible crystals.
However a lot of tiny crystals.. I find that "massive" pieces are softer then crystal quartz in general, never worked Herkimer Diamonds myself though.. :)
