Nice harvest, good find congrats to your daughter and to you also Tgun, I have been hunting hard and look forward to upcoming hunts with my son. We have many great memories hunting deer together, I was side by side with him on his first, last year I was a few hundred yards hunting in the woods with him when he got his first nice buck at 18 years old.

awesome, our deer season don't start for about 3 weeks still, cant wait to get out again, my 12 year old son got a spiker last year with the same gun I used to get my first buck 16 years earlier

Just wanted to say thanks to our Moderators for handling this the way the did. Happy times for me and my family and just wanted to share. :icon_thumleft:

I understand why it was posted in "today's finds". As Jeff said it will be moved after 24 hours but only because it isn't really for what "today's finds" forum was designed for, not because it is hunting.

We will NOT go quitely into the night!

Beaaaaaautiful Deer! A lot of people forget that in the 1700's and 1800's we didn't have a Walmart to go to for food. We supplied our own food just the same as the Native Americans. I don't hunt because I don't have anyone to go with and can get lost in my own bathroom. But I remember when I was small eating Deer meat and I felt like I was living in the old days where if you wanted to eat you had to work for it. Congrats! PS If you got any extra deer baloney you can send it to PA and I will pay you for it haha :) I have not had real meat in years. Just the chemical filled junk from grocery stores.

Beeps in my sleep, One of our friends gave us a young doe Saturday. They are thinning due to an extremely high doe to buck ratio per TWRA's advice. Talk about some awesome meals the last couple of days. Hope to put several more in the freezer once we catch up on those we provide for.:icon_thumleft:

Do you make deer jerky ? That stuff is amazing and the baloney too! Very happy for you and your daughter! Thats bonding! My step father growing up hunted but never cared about me enough to take me or bond. But I remember how good the stuff was. I sell cars for a living and atleast once a year I get one customer that brings me Deer Baloney and I act like a squirrel hoarding for winter. I run to the fridge in the back of the dealership and hide it making sure no one is watching. Then when it is time to go home I grab it and run like a crazed ape to my car and once I get home....It is safe haha. Congrats beautiful deer and tell your daughter I am impressed. Most women I know wont even fire a bb gun let alone hunt. Keep the tradition alive man. You and your daughter will have memories that will last a lifetime! :icon_thumright:

Beeps, I have had a real hit or miss experience with the bologna and sausage. Love the jerky. Really need to get a new dehydrator and haven't made any because of it. I had a friend bring me some stick sausage (summer sausage) recently that was the best I have ever had. I literally just made a sandwich out of some backstrip. Little crushed cayenne that I grew and salt and pepper. Hot iron skillet and fry really hot as to leave it a bit rare, and it was literally beyond words. I tried to get a little fancy yesterday with some and was informed by my daughter in a hurry that it mask the flavor of venison. So much for being creative. My favorite way is to soak in salt water (especially mature bucks) and wrap a strip of bacon around edges then grill. :icon_thumleft:

thank you for taking out that horrible plant killer * I mean it's not like poor helpless plants can "run away" from them , plus this now leaves more "plants" for non meat eating humans to devour -- joking -- nice deer there, I like "fresh meat" , I hunt --I do not tell vegans for shame for eating plants , so they should not bash me --each to their own "plate" of food.--worth noting all prey eating (meat eating) animals in nature have "forward facing eyes" while prey (plant eaters) animals have eyes on the sides of their heads --we humans have forward focusing eyes , but as a back up plan we have molars so we can eat plants if meat is scarce --we were designed to be "omnivores" -- thus we can eat any and everything that doesn't eat us first basically.

Glad your daughter and son are learning to hunt from you. I'm not able to hunt without having to get somebody to haul my deer out of the woods and even quail hunting hurts my neck from the shotgun's recoil. But, I am blessed with good neighbors who bring me dove and deer meat. My pastor has promised to harvest a deer for me and save the liver, because that's a favorite meal of mine. Sliced liver, fried and onion and gravy and Mama cooks some buttermilk biscuits and I over dose on good eating. Deer meat is superior to anything at the supermarket and I love fried rabbit and squirrel stew. Happy hunting.

Nothing wrong with put'n food on the table. 3 questions, who's cooking, when's dinner, and are we invited? At lest the wild life you get has taste unlike the genetic engineered "beef?" they're passing off as such in the stores?

I hear you man...we chunk the back strap up, bacon wrap it and put it on skewers with bell pepper, onions and whole mushrooms, then on to the grill...dang I just made myself hungry.

Not at all unusual here. Looks like your girl is off to a good start.
My great-grandma (b.1876 d. 1975) shot a 12 point buck in Minnesota in her first week of married life in 1895; my brother has the rack in his den. No amount of money could buy it.

Congrats to Abby! Great hunt! Great job on teaching her all about the outdoors. I live in TN as well and started going out with my Dad when I was 5, I would kick out the rabbits from the bushes :laughing7:. A lot of great memories hunting, camping & fishing with my Dad. We went out Saturday as well, I saw a dozen deer from my stand and never thought about pulling the trigger. I had more fun watching a young buck chase two does around. There is a lot more to hunting than just shooting an animal. Thanks for sharing and happy hunting, David.
