This is the 5th new Roman Site we have discovered this year, but all the others were either cleared out or low status. We have had permission for this land for many years but have never done the leg work until today. At least 1 other Detectorist does this land & they have reported finding very little.:laughing7:
Cru'dad had scouted this area yesterday & apart from the Roman Pottery, he only got a Crotal Bell,Bullet, Lead Seals & not much else. However, he left our Archy intel until today & armed with the GPS we dropped right down into a great area. We have tried about 20 of these Archy targets this year & this is the last one on the list & by far the best!:icon_thumright:

In only 5 hours:

30 Roman Bronze Coins
5 Roman Silver-4 by me, thats our best 1 day total & my personal best as well! 2 x Gordian III, 2 x Elagabalus, 1 Faustina Junior
1929 Sixpence
Crotal Bell (yesterday)
13th C Annular Brooch & pin
Broken Roman Folding Knife
Roman Enamelled Stud
Roman Fantail Fibula piece
Star Find by me very early in the hunt (10 minutes) - Stylized Bronze Votive Lion Figurine:headbang:

Just the day we needed when options were drying up!

Another Wow for me. You guys have amazing places to hunt and the history around there is spectacular. Does it ever get boring digging roman coins?

Nope, we GPS everyone & I forget the exact number but we have had close to 9000.

I think they are awesome but the chances of me finding any would be astronomical. I had to ask because you get tired of digging newer pennies around here....

WTG Cru, looks like you'll be gridding this one low & slow!

Not so slow & with the lumpy/wavey conditions, not that low either. But we do have plenty of gridding ahead, as I estimated we have only covered about 10% of the area, although it 'may' have been the better part.

@Cru'Dad, if reading, I just checked the aerials & the good news is I think it goes into both the fields on either side!

Absolutely amazing. Those silvers look great. Congrats again Cru on another amazing hunt.

Just when I thought you've stopped astonishing me with your finds, you go and have a 5 roman Silver day. It's making me jealous as I don't find old stuff like across the pond, but also because I cannot find any time to get out. Thanks for sharing Cru

Wow the second photo would be a killer day, now add the 5 silver Romans on top is awesome. Congrats guys you had a day to remember.:occasion14:

Isn't there a saying"
How do you find Gold coins? Reply: 'By finding lots of Silver ones..' Hope it comes to be for you at this site.

Cru,

The 5 Roman silvers are great but like you I have to go with the lion as the find of the bunch.

We joked about a Roman Gold from this site, but the ratio of silver/gold Roman is unknown to us, we have a good grip on the silver/bronze, but the only Roman Gold we know about from the local area, came from a random field & no site.

Great day on roman silver and even better with the figurine. When it comes to temple sites anything can happen!

Freakin' awesome finds.

I envy you Europeans. You have that ancient stuff in the ground just waiting to be found.

Congrats.

Awesome finds guys ! :occasion14:
