Super finds! If you live near people that have more money than brains, mount a few in a couple of shadow boxes, and sell the set for twice what you pay for the boxes. Trust me on this one - Recycled Art!

Unbelievable what folks will buy isn't it! lol!

Hi try brown vinegar on the knives and check the axe heads for markers stamps. I believe there is a axe collectors forum. TP

Nice finds! Ive been using oxalic acid lately to eat away rust

If your gonna toss them ...Find a metal box ...Put every thing in there... 25' straight out the back door ...only dig down 6" for us old folk to find .Great finds :occasion14:
That is a good point I wont use a chest then someone would be very disappointed LOL

Very Nice Loot Tommy! You Do have a lot of knives that you've found!

Is that clip watch with the leather strap a Winchester or Remington? I've got one like that too. Cool watch and they are collectible with some gun collectors depending on the brand and hunters too.

Ill check I huess it would be best to look up the brand and see if they are worth fussing over.

I've also found a good number of knives over the years, many of them good, the ones that are "toasted", I've soaked in some apple cider vinegar, to rid most of the rust, a little wire brushing, you've got to figure there isn't much to lose. I do this because some of the grips or whatever the proper term is, are pretty nice, and of course each has it's own story, all put together, they actually look pretty good.
Thanks Ill try that and electrolysis hope I done electricute myself lol

I save them but I love and collect knives. When doing electrolysis be sure and put some baking soda in the water. Also I've found that hot water works best. A phone charger works but any pack that delivers up to 2amps works fine.
Thanks for the tip my friend Ill have plenty of time this winter

box em up as is and sell on Ebay as a lot. You would be surprised who would love the adventure of discovery or recovery....
Ill tell ya there is a buyer for almost anything

this is after a few hours, crusty rusty lump is now gold plated brass & stainless blades, marked O.M.D. on bail. good as new:happysmiley: That came out pretty good Ill give it the old GED try!

Nice treasures Tommy.

Rainy day like today might not be a bad time to try the electrolysis. I have a several coffee cans of misc metal that I have dug that I see in garage and think why do I still have this stuff. One day I plan to look through it and see if I overlooked any treasure, but will probably give them to a friend who scraps metal. Not sure I need old any sawed padlock parts, pie tins and other scrap.

Then time to go out and find more.

HH,

Pete
Trust me I have lots of stuff. In the pic there is an old brass opium pipe with what looks like a Chinese drawing on the base.

My guess would be to put the ones that aren’t too bad for 4 hrs and the others for 12. Try to clean a few and see what kind of results you get and just work from there. Good luck
Thanks Racso Im actually going to try something in everyway suggested to see what works best

I didn't know they were marked Thanks

Wow, that’s quite a collection Tommy. Clean up a few and see if it’s worth your time. Arm and Hammer washing Soda works perfect as the electrolyte. Best of luck!
