Got out this morning before the sun came up. Went to a small woods lot where I've found a few coins in the past. Got an iffy signal at 5 inches and pulled this 5 dollar gold piece out. Searched for 2 more hours and no more coins. It was getting hot by then so headed home a very happy man.

holy smokes, banner!

Oh Art... I just don't know what to say... congrats on an epic find. That is what we are all looking for. I am glad that all of your hard work has produced dividends!

Congratulations! :notworthy:

Nice find if it is in fact genuine! I hope I am wrong but I have never seen a Gold coin come out of the ground or out of fresh water or Salt water looking like that! It appears that it was made poorly in a mold thus the porous and bubbly look to it.

I think that's the real deal, HUGE CONGRATS!!! Please post more pics once it's all cleaned up!

:occasion14: Love it even in its toasted stage. I hope it cleans up good. Makes a great centerpiece for mancave wall

5 dollar coin

It appears that it was made poorly in a mold thus the porous and bubbly look to it and the images lack really good detail. Even if not genuine, the metal could still be Gold but the purity will have to be determined.

Here's some more pics weight is right size is right edge is right

Metal Magnet brought up that it may have been in a fire and he is probably correct! That would explain the bubbly look as air bubbles in the Gold expand and often show on the surface of a coin. I don't know why I did not think of that but most Gold and some Silver coins that are in a fire, come out in mostly unrecognizable blobs. Sorry!
