I got out for a while today. Tons of trash, but I did manage to make a couple of really good (to me) finds. 1953 Silver Rosie, 1946 wheat, and the biggest surprise of the day when I flipped up the button. I can't make out any markings on the back because of the built up corrosion, but I can see a date (on the upper left). I'm not sure what to think here. Could it be?

The other objects are an old hose spout and the back of a wristwatch.

PBK, if you could help me identify this button, I'd be grateful.

Nice job nhbenz, that sure does look like it but why would they make a button based on an old coin and what would it have been on?

Good call, Ben!

Bootstrap, your find is a modern civilian clothing button, sometimes referred to as a "blazer" button. These are typically of thin, die-stamped brass construction, often with a tinned steel back. Many are silvered or gilt. Common designs include fancy coats of arms, and imitations of 17th-19th century European coins and medals.

PBK, not my find,it belongs to mountain player but I'm sure he'll be happy for your input, you really seem to know your stuff and your the first one he asked for to help I.D. it.

Thanks for the correction! Chalk up another one to the ol' "Senior Syndrome." :P

My apologies, Mountainplayer. I should have started at the top of the thread and read it all! ::)

Thanks for the help, PBK. I knew you'd be able to figure this thing out. I had my fingers crossed that I had something really special there, but deep down I had my doubts. I found it about 3 feet away from a 1953 silver Rosie in an area that has had activity (to my knowledge) for about the last 100 years or so. Depth was only 5", and the button seemed to be in too good of shape to be 250 years old.

Woke up this morning with plans to hit the site again, but everything is covered with snow.

Never hurts to make sure! Besides, condition can be deceiving... I look around 250 years old, too! ;)

The nut is part of a cable crimp. I goes on a slotted bolt, you put two ends of cable into the bolt slot, then tighten down the nut to secure it. YAY, I got one first !!!!!

I dunno but nice finds!

Snow Huh MP? Don't even have that in Maine yet! Thought California was warm, shows how much I know.Never been anywhere.Maybe someday....
