You may have already read about this on another site but I thought I'd share with the gng's here too.

Interesting day today. I found a ring (broken), a box knife and $3.61 in clad. What is interesting is the ring. I think it may have got hit by a mower because the bottom half of the ring is sliced off. I've been doing some research on the net to find out what I can about it and it seems to be made from "maundy money". This one has Queen Victoria on it and the ring is a gold color but not gold (I don't think) At least it doesn't say so on the part I have but then it may have said it on the part that's missing. Anyway here are a few pictures of what I've found this morning.

First one is all my finds.

Now for the ring, this is three views of it

This is a ring I found up on the net that looks very similar but the site is in German and I can't read it. I have no idea what the ring may be worth. I am thinking about prying the coin out of the ring to see what it looks like on the back. What do you think? I mean the ring is broken anyway.....

and one last picture of the one up on the net

Well I haven't been out hunting in a while so this one is a little long. All in all today was a good day. I'll take it! ;)

I'll be honest with you, I wouldn't try to pry that coin out on the chance it is gold. It would greatly reduce the value of it. It might even ruin it. I would take it to a jeweler or a pawn shop and let them test it for you. If it is gold it could be worth a good bit. If it's damaged pretty bad it would just be worth the weight in gold. Good luck, HOPE IT'S GOLD!!!

I agree...

If there's a chance of it being gold I'd be a little cautious and let a jeweler test it before doing anything you just might regret!!

I myself would probably leave it up to a jeweler also....anything that go's wrong is on him.But like you said the ring is broken, why not find out if you can benefit from by salvaging it...Go for it...Just keep us posted....HH!!

Hello I am new too this forum, But have allot of experience in antiquities. Rule number 1 Do not remove anything from the item found. This can ruin the value.

That's a cool find. I hope it is Gold. Please let us know what you find out from a jeweler.

Nice ring. If it was a gold soverign, the date would be below Queen Victoria's bust. It's a medal of some kind. The ring is basically a lost cause so if your curious about what's on the reverse side, work away so long as you don't cause any dammage. Like a orevious poster said, take it into a jeweler if you haven't got the proper tools.

Nice finds, Mumzie. The ring is interesting. Saw a lot of those coins on the web, but couldn't get yours to match up to any. A lot of real close matches, but none exact. Still a sweet find. I would take to a jeweler to have them look at it per the other suggestions previous. Don't want to ruin something that may be of great value, even though it is already damaged.

Nice ring,hope it's a gold coin.

Cool find. I have a silver British schilling(1893-1901) that has the same design. Date is on the reverse of the coin.

Yeah, those are some good finds Mum - thanks for sharing.

Very interesting find! Also I always like the clad pics.

Nice haul, mumszie! You have a great coin to pull tab ratio! ;D

Cool ring too! Like others have said, don't mess with it...let a jeweler do it.

Thanks for sharing.

Nice find, I would cut the rest of the band off and smooth it down, keep the coin in the setting. If you take the coin out it will likely have a big glue mark or stain that was used to hold it in place better. The value will drop dramatically if thats the case and likely is.

Keep @ it and HH!!
