You may have already read about this on another site but I thought I'd share with the gng's here too.

Interesting day today. I found a ring (broken), a box knife and $3.61 in clad. What is interesting is the ring. I think it may have got hit by a mower because the bottom half of the ring is sliced off. I've been doing some research on the net to find out what I can about it and it seems to be made from "maundy money". This one has Queen Victoria on it and the ring is a gold color but not gold (I don't think) At least it doesn't say so on the part I have but then it may have said it on the part that's missing. Anyway here are a few pictures of what I've found this morning.

First one is all my finds.

Now for the ring, this is three views of it

This is a ring I found up on the net that looks very similar but the site is in German and I can't read it. I have no idea what the ring may be worth. I am thinking about prying the coin out of the ring to see what it looks like on the back. What do you think? I mean the ring is broken anyway.....

and one last picture of the one up on the net

Well I haven't been out hunting in a while so this one is a little long. All in all today was a good day. I'll take it! ;)

Hey there, I put this link on my favorites and just wondered if you came up with anything on the ring. Thanks

Don't pry the coin loose. That coin has been there for a long time and getting it out won't do anything but potentially ruin it. Just my 2 cents worth.

Truthfully I haven't done anything with it except show it to family. I will take the advice from other gng's and not pry the coin out. As for taking it to a jeweler. We have a friend that is a jeweler and I will take it to him to look at but we don't live close to him anymore so it will be a while before he gets to see it.

I believe the coin in the ring either is a Victoria Veiled Head Half Sovereign 1893-1901 or patterned after it

The date will be on the back. Great find. Hope you have the real thing. HH,
Donny.

ALL previous GOOD ADVICE.I'd suggest take it to QUALITY jeweler he'll diagnose it & clean it up & fit/fix it so its wearable put it on your finger & just wear it & boast! ::)...What you have their IS A UNIQUE CONVERSATION PIECE :o.Then you'd be a walking advertisment for the exiting hobby of metal detecting....THIS FIND NEEDS TO BE OUT IN THE SUNLIGHT!

Great digins'. Half a ring is better than no ring at all...
Keep safe...

Well to set enquiring minds at rest - including my own. I pried off the coin from the ring. I knew is was NOT a real half Sovereign. I've lived in England and I knew what they actually looked like - how big they are. This coin is about the size of a dime. So like I said I pried it off and here is the other side and also the inside of the ring.

maybe you can have a bit of jewelery made from it ---the front "piece" might be gold or at the very least gold plated ---could get a bezel made for it and wear it as a necklace or remounted into a ring for yourself---- cool find just the same ---your most likely right ---looks like the ring lost the fight with a mower ---glad the "coin part" didn't get whacked--- by the way which detector were you using when you found it? and did you try ringing up only the coin now that you have it apart to try and find out its make up of should be able to (if using the CZ 20--you can tell by the sound---like I "showed" you-- gold has a much differant sound and if using the garrent ---both the sound and the read out numbers should help you find out gold or just gold plated?--nice find either way ---Ivan

Nice finds, congrats, and very cool ring.
