Its pretty small even for a sink.

Can we see the item next to a coin for reference?

Hi BigCy, Yes I will take some more detailed pics with a coin for reference this evening when I get home from work. I'll also ask my buddy to post some pics of his very much identical object.

I found this.It shows how it worked.

Hi RD! Thanks for the pic. As poster said on another thread with a similar item it is quite small perhaps being only 3/4" in diameter and the outside diameter of the bottom lip is even smaller. I will post measurements this evening. The hole in the shank is very small and if it was used in a tub with a lever I think the shank would need to be much longer with a larger hole. I think either a small chain or spring was attached to the shank. I'd thought about it possibly being used to sew it onto something, but the bottom lip then would not make sense. It's brass and quite heavy. Funny thing is we found two within an hour or so in different areas of a very large front lawn to a large estate and I doubt that these were the only two out there. This piece is a real mystery so far.

...yes Erik,I am saying they may not be what I said......:BangHead::tongue3:

K, Do you happen to know whether the stoppers for the shot socks and powder flasks were all threaded or were some held on by friction? The lip on my item is fairly shallow, so it may not have provided a lot of friction to be used in the field.

Not sure,I am going to look through my few examples when I get home......the issue,is that the socks were worn in a way that the spout was down.............this one is a head scratcher

OK I see you already posted a link to Breezies find.

As far as my 'too small for a tub' response, I actually posted it before you did but somehow your post appeared first. Looking at the times posted, its a tie. I really dont like this new formatt. I would think glitches would be fixed by now.

My buddy who found the other one is taking some measurements as we speak and will hopefully post soon. Regards, Erik

With so many found makes for an interesting search project. They all seem to be identical. Would it be safe to say its a post-CW item?

Regarding the lip on the bottom of the item, please note that it is beveled in--which I would think would not make a very secure friction fit. Also it's not very long. Doesn't appear that it would hold water in a tub or sink very well either. We should be getting some more definitive measurements soon.

And if its a snap why the lip?
