Cool looking spot, should be some old silver and cool relics laying around there. Good luck!

Sometimes in spots like that I start looking around and wonder how cool it would be to just push a button and have all the coins and jewelry in the ground just appear at my feet....
Then reality hits!!
It's tuff digging things out of the hard fields or abandoned lots and if it were any easier we would have a lot more competition.
Looks like a good site just very dependent on narrowing down exact location.
Good luck out there!

Cool site. your gonna hit a lot of trash. Perhaps you might want to narrow your search to places that look as though a boardwalk might once have existed or a spot with a shade tree that people may have shaded under or perhaps had lunch under. the tree doesn't even need to be there , might be a stump now. I didn't see any likely spots in the photo, but look around. someplace may jump out at you. you might also look for a water source on the same property or very nearby.

I tried an old site about a year ago that was in ways similar, Dayton Coal and Iron Company. Needless to say with the iron and the coke it was more frustrating than it was worth, ha ha. Your site may have potential. Funny how they seem to be a blurr of junk with the occasional little hot spot or two that produce coins in a very confined area. That is my past experience with them anyway. Haven't done much of that type of hunting in many years. Have always preferred the CW relics and old home sites. Best of luck and hope to see some posts come from it.:laughing7:

Cool looking site! That will be a place to come back to time and time again over the years! Large area to cover for sure but I believe others here are correct. If you scout around a bit, look for the likely gathering places where people would eat lunch or take smoke breaks. Maybe there is a store or cafeteria area that may have some areas around it that would be worth checking. Can't wait to see what you pull outta here!

I'm always willing to help, could be part of the thirty! Ha, thanks for sharing.

Finding new sites is the real skill.

Yes I imagine there could be lots of stuff there. Maybe lots of junk too, but save the copper / brass it will add up probably faster than clad. Being 1880 no doubt you'll hit a hot spot or two.

Good luck out there.

Wow, that's a great find. Looks like from the old photo you posted there maybe some other areas around there that might yield some goodies. Definetly take someone with you cause it's a big site, plus for safety sakes. Not cause of critters, they usually leave you alone,it's the two legged kind cause someone else might have noticed the place too.Along with junk, you might find some coins or other stuff too. Out by me, there are abandoned farm houses, though the way they keep building houses out here
that might not be so for much longer.

Also, might be a good place for ghost hunting.

Thanks for all the comments and advice. I've got high hopes for the place, I mostly go out alone don't know any other people who metal detect where I live... u gotta walk 2 miles to the place also...

I'd love to have a spot like that to hunt. Most of the old depots around my area have been either totally demolished, leaving you to figure out exactly where they were, or updated with concrete covering the land around them. Good luck, girl!

Cool looking spot bountyhuntergirl , I would be looking for old locks and tools ! Good luck with the site !
