Hello fellow TNetters,

It's been a while so I thought I'd better post something or you might think I'm slackin' :D

I got permission to hunt an old yard about 5 miles away..it's a huge yard with overgrown grass, weeds and wild violets..with every sweep came swarms of mosquitos, so luckily I brought the repellant with me! I swear I never saw so many of them..they were around in late February if you can believe that, and the monsoon rains we've had since then allowed them to breed in record numbers around here.

Anyway, in between trips back to the truck to spray myself, I found a neat variety of finds..here's a group shot of my finds from the yard, including 2 brass hose nozzels (I found about 14 of these things so far!), a small toy boat, an antique TootsieToy car, a large BMW, 4 1/64th scale Hot Wheels cars, clad, 2 wheaties, the back of what looks like an old pocketwatch, some keys and 2 religious pendants.

One of the pendants is sterling silver and is absolutely beautiful..it's also really unique..it opens 2 different ways to reveal inscriptions on each side. Here's what it looked like when I found it (closed):

Here's one side with both "compartments" twisted open:

I also found this Nichols 250 cap gun..it was 5-6 inches deep and it took me a while to dig up. I knew what it was when I saw the cylinder..glad I got it out in one piece!

After the yard gets cut I'm going back..there's more ground to cover!

I also spent part of this morning at a couple of schoolyards..been to both before but I got what little was left..

Since yesterday I found about $10 for the guitar fund, so now I'm at $290.00 in clad this year so far..with luck I'll have it before Christmas!

Have a great weekend!

Annmarie, you're awesome!!! Thanks for the research..I wasn't aware of the correlation between the rose and Mary.

Awsome! Gotta love an old yard!

WOW YOU REALLY KNOW HOW TO FIND EM.

COINS, TOYS, SILVER ALL KINDS OF STUFF.

IT'S LIKE THE STUFF IS JUST GROWING OUT OF THE GROUND DOWN THERE.

ARE YOU THE ONLY DETECTORIST THERE? LOOKS LIKE YOU HAVE LITTLE OR NO COMPETITION.

HARRY.

Thanks Harry..there's a couple of others I've seen hunting places I've been to, but I've also been fortunate enough to find some good out-of-the-way virgin sites (schools and sports fields). All the private yards I've asked to hunt have never seen a coil before..most people in my neighborhood never even thought of checking their yards, or have anyone else check them for that matter.

I've also noticed that many of the older yards may not produce as many coins as I hoped they would (which is mostly what I'm after), but this is made up for by the amount of other things I find that are old, and give a decent account of the history of families who lived there in the past.

WoW, Nat! That rose pendant is stunning! :o Congrats on all those super finds!

Nana :)

Too Cool, I had never seen a little tiny brass nozzle like that, now I've seen 2 in a month. Jopher dug one just like it at an 1868 house here in Michigan. The rose pendent is truly awesome, is it heavy? Bongo

Thanks Bongo..that's the third tiny nozzle I've found so far..they were all found in old yards around here. The pendant is silver and is fairly heavy..it feels like a clump of lead. It has a very deep coloring to it, a little darker silver than normal..maybe it's an old piece.

Thanks all
Nat

That is some pretty silver there Nat. You still have it going on this year.

Great bunch of finds Nat --Love that pendant.

Nice Digs Nat...How Big is the yard? Do they spray for mosquitos, where I live the City takes care of it...HH on that Guitar Fund

Hey Nat and all,

The mosquito's are going to be bad here this year as well.
They always are on our place.
A lot of folks don't like the way some of the insect repellent sprays react with their skin,
or the way they smell.

Try getting a small non aerosol spray bottle and filling it with regular Listerine.
spray on your hat and clothes and see if the bugs don't leave you alone.
seems to work here and is a lot easier and cheaper than bug repellent.

I'm not sure of the dimensions, but it's 3 times bigger than my typical midwestern corner lot..a truck goes by the neighborhoods with the spray, but they don't actually go into the yards and spray them. One reason they were so bad there besides all the rain we've had is because the yard hadn't been cut all year..the owner told me he just started lawn service, so hopefully when I go back it will have already been done.

Thanks for the tip, I'll have to try that!

Thanks all,
Nat
