hardly embarrased. he is smug and he knows it. I could probably sit down and have a drink with him and laugh about this. Im a country boy... but im no kid if you know what I mean.

I think you dont fully understand what he does. He passes internet info from one web. address to another for the most part. Then You get the impression that he has somehow stored all of that info in his head. google his name... he is on almost every forum on the internet. Im in the field..... I dont have time to spend all day in front of a computer.....
to think that embarrases me is silly

boy this 1 got me going... here's an analogy... its friday night and 2 people are performing live. they are singing the song Turn The Page. 1 person is in front of a karaoke machine with the words running across the screen. they got every word right and everybody clapped.The other is Bob Seger live on stage. while performing the song he was doing things like standing on top of the amplifier... playing the guitar and interacting with the audience.He messed up the lyrics 3 different times... who do you think is more talented?
 

lookingdown..... if you read his post carefully he went on to describe my analysis in this particular case to be the most likely.

That Bob Seger analogy is telling. 'GatorBoy/AlwaysLearning' is confusing this forum with Twitter where no one cares about the accuracy of what is posted as long as it is amusing or otherwise diverting. He is trying to amuse us; he is standing on top of the amplifier, as he describes it, getting the lyrics wrong.

My interest in this forum is not as an entertainer. I think of this forum as a place to share reliable scientific information; to learn what interesting things are being found elsewhere; and to refine my own understanding of the natural world. I don't think of the forum as a social networking site.

'GatorBoy/AlwaysLearning' seems to resent that I usually do a modicum of research before I post to a thread here. It matters to me to get the lyrics right. Improvising stories as a substitute for knowledge may work for Bob Seger on stage, but it's counterproductive in a science-oriented forum.
 

without the people in the field compiling the information for you to sift through while sitting in your computer chair you would not have much to do.
 

just like a reporter. most if not all of the information that you regurgitate is being constantly rewritten by the people who are actually doing the work.

The pseudonym "Harry Pristis" may sound like a (weak) play on words, but that is accidental.

I was actually thinking of the sawfish genus, Pristis, which has both fossil and extent species. (Pristis is Greek for "saw.") Thanks for asking.
