Florida Lost Wedding Ring - PLEASE HELP!

Thanks CD1 & WB... I really regret not being able to find that ring for him though. I think about it every time I think of going back. Maybe I'll get another shot next Spring Break.

As far as FSS goes... I don't exactly know the person's problem. Maybe he just thought it a waste to spend time trying to help someone else, instead of himself. Who knows. It doesn't really matter though... if something is lost and has the potential of being found, that's what we're there for.

Bran, I don't know what FSS's problem might be, but in my opinion, you are a darn fine human being. God Bless You.
I'm still hoping to find something someday that I can return to the someone who lost it. So many of us have lost things at some point that meant a great deal to us. If you are then fortunate enough to have had that item returned you may have been overwhelmed with happiness and relief. It's selfish maybe, but imagine how good you would feel to be able to do that for someone. It's great stuff. Hey, FSS, don't kid yourself, that's not BS man, that's God's Work.
I do hope this person had their ring returned to them

I second this Bran Whiz is correct your a fine fellow for trying to locate this

make it three for I think your doing a good deed --why would the guy BS him ? what would he gain from doing it? scammers / bs ers are into it for some sort of $$$ for them --no profiet to be turned a $200 buck reward for a $100 ring -- no profiet there me amigo--- and if its a "gee lets play a dirty trick on the metal detector dudes" for sick fun -- hey the guys in the area and not doing anything esle and you never know he might run across something good "by accident" -- or it could be 100%% legit deal --- good for both parties if its found. -- hey if hes ok with looking for it its his time and effort -- why you so unhappy about it? ;D chill amigo and have a cold one -- ;D

Hey Guys and Gals...

I haven't been logging onto Treasurenet for a while, primarily because I've been too focused on work and sidetracked by other events. Anyway...this is and never was any lie or BS of a topic! Six months after I was married, I lost my ring at Ft. Desoto Beach. I'm most excited when someone who is in that area says they may be able to assist with the find. If I was over in that part of the state everyday as soon as it occurred, I would have been out there myself. I would say at this time that the ring is long gone. Granted, I read on here people digging up rings in the sand that have been lost for years at the beach. I'm not expecting to see the ring again at this point. My wife was only sad for a while. Good thing the ring did only cost $99 and I easily bought a replacement. The extra $100 I was offering was for the sentimental value of the ring. Granted, my original wedding ring is worth more than $100 to me, I find a 100% profit on the worth of the ring to be a nice reward for the recovery of the ring. It's SOOO NICCCCEEE to see that other Treasurenet users have such large faith in their fellow users. I thank Bran so much for his assist in searching for the ring. I thanked the woman whom I borrowed her $50 metal detector when it did occur so that I could search for the ring. I think some of you people who call other people's loss BS...well I think your whole attitude is that of self consumed ___________! (user your imagination)

Hey BF....
It's no big deal, and the only person that made that comment was FSS... whom, if you can tell, is a newb (only 32 total posts). I think everyone else, including myself, thinks it was time well spent. It was really no sweat off of my back... ok, maybe a little... it was really hot out in the sun! lol :D
Either way, I'm glad to hear you got a replacement. If I go back home sometime and I'm down that way, I'll give it another go. You never know what might turn up. The same thing happened to me back in high school with my class ring, though I had to get it replaced and never saw the original again.
It's just really nice when we're able to help each other out here on T-Net. We're all pretty much like family anyway, so that's what we're here for. :)
Take care man!

I might... but the beaches change & shift, as well as the high tides that sometimes come in and wash stuff out.
If I get out that way, chances are that I will. It's so much better when I have someone with me... but once again, I'm alone as usual.

I fly in at 10pm on Monday the 23rd... and leave sometime in the evening on Saturday the 28th. I know it's not very long, but with my module class this week that I just finished today, it's all I can manage. :-\

Bran, Way to go on the help. Do you use a sand scoop of any kind? The reason I ask is I am going razor clam digging on the washington state coast next weekend and was also going to do some metal detecting. I just ordered a expensive scoop and was wondering if they work well or what you use on beaches for digging.

I wonder what FSS really stands for?

Thanks. No, I don't use a scoop. I just either kick the sand aside with my foot, or use my hand trowel if the sand is compacted. For the most part, our beaches usually consist of powder fine sand. I'm sure a scoop would be handy to have, and I might consider getting one or having one fabricated when I move back to Florida in May. Since I've been living up in Missouri for college over the last 6 years, I've only been down for visits, so it hasn't been in my best interest to invest in a scoop. Plus, my detector is really made for the land and dry sand... so maybe someday I'll be able to secure a waterproof detector as well. I still manage to have fun detecting the sand though! :-)

Oh, and I don't know what FSS stands for. Don't much care either... ::)

you can hunt at this site?

You're "technically" only supposed to hunt between the tide & the dune... that's specific for my lifetime permit.
Although, you should be able to detect wherever you'd like if you're looking for a piece of lost jewelry that you've lost.
I'll be fine anyway, because this is the sandy trail and the beach area past the dunes... so I shouldn't be anywhere else but there.
I didn't know for sure where it was located, until Nathan gave me a call today. Now I've got an idea and a map printed out, I'll hit it up next time we're out there again (possibly tomorrow)

Bran - is the MS Virtual Earth that you have on your post the Beta version or the one you have to pay for? The resolution is amazing. Thanks.

No friend, it's neither a Beta or a paid version... it's the Microsoft Live Maps, which is free. :)
http://maps.live.com/
I got that good of a resolution using the Bird's Eye View setting on the top left side of the map window. There's "some" places that don't have it, mainly islands or far away places... and sometimes inland areas. But check it out, there are two zoom stages for the Birds Eye View setting! And unlike Google Maps (I have the pro version), the maps that Microsoft use are usually less than a year old...

If you have a Hotmail or Live account, which are also free... you can place pushpin's into the map at certain spots, have the ability to save them, and then come back to them later on. I have old 1800's civil war sites tagged all over Springfield, Missouri (where I've been attending college), a ton of sites marked for back home in and around St Petersburg, Florida... and also some gold & other mineral prospecting sites across the country. I even have some prospective sites marked at different locations around the world, so someday I can possibly pursue some of my leads. :icon_pirat:

Bran - Thanks so much. I'll check it out.

You're welcome friend...

Hi Bran, I like using both MS Live Maps and Google Earth when scoping out MD sites. My neighborhood's view on Live Maps is about 18 months old where Google's is about 1 year old so I guess it depends on your location. With google I can quickly find the best routes into a park, beach, etc. and go down to the street level 360 degree panorama to see exactly what traffic and parking is like. When I actually go to the site for the first time, it's like I've been there before.

To anyone who hasn't used those mapping utilities, try them!! They both have free versions and are tremendous assets to MDers.

Yep, I agree with you scrubber... I do use both quite frequently, but I have to admit, I do use LiveMaps more.
Sometimes Google Earth has things that's lacking in Live Maps and visa-versa. If things aren't too clear with LiveMaps, I then usually switch over to Google Earth Pro to see if I can get any better resolution. If all else fails, I'll just GO there! lol :D

Yeah, when you get down to just above tree top level, LiveMaps has better resolution. Sometimes it's a bit of a help when it's been awhile since the last photo update. You can see recent changes to a site, like when a house was torn down recently.

Yep, most definitely man!

I just went to look at the differences between Google Earth free and pro versions.

http://earth.google.com/enterprise/earth_pro.html

I think you probably have better resolution with pro at treetop level than I have with the free one. There are other nice things too. Maybe I'll upgrade. :icon_scratch:
