I just found this in a Lowcountry SC creek located on a plantation that dates back to the late 17th century. It's 12 inches long, hexagonal and tapered. I will do electrolysis when I get home & post better pictures later but I wanted to know what y'all think so far. Is this a pistol barrel? Thanks in advance.

To further complicate the mystery there is no guarantee the the flintlock is from the same gun that the barrel piece came from.

I plan to revisit the site Friday and detect the heck out of that area of the creek. Maybe I'll find more parts of the gun and we will have more pieces of the puzzle.

Cool.
You had recovered a barrel band too(?),that narrows stuff down a little more if just one gun..
It is possible multiple guns parts are there, but one gun would be enough of a puzzle.L.o.l..

The spring that is visible appears to be too small to be a mainspring, I think it may be the sear spring in a front action lock.Untitled document

I detected the site yesterday and found this about 20 feet from where I found the flintlock mechanism. I think it's the frizzen; what say y'all?

I just found this not too far below where I found the other gun parts. I know it's a long shot but could it be the trigger guard? I don't think it is but I'll throw it out there anyway.

The more I look at it the more I think it is the trigger guard. Any input would be appreciated.

Should have two screw holes at least to attach to stock. Or lugs for pins. The iron or sheet metal cruder tradegun styles were held by screws.
The bow suggest's a guard shape but little on one side to secure it.
To my imagination it looks more like the end of a fireplace tong.
I understand that does not fit with your other findings there. Maybe hang on to it in case something else comes to light about it.
Another recovery there though!

I was wondering about the lack of holes, and also it looks too narrow in the area where the trigger would be located. Thanks for the input-as they say, "It is what it is."
