I'm sure it's been asked before, sure would be nice to have some molded adapters to run old coils on new rigs or new coils on old rigs due to Fisher going from pushon to screw on connectors.

I am disappointed someone at Fisher forget to notice my fingers aren't small enough to screw the sleeve down on a new F2 because the chassis wasn't changed, just the connectors.

Older coils on new detector and newer coils on older detectors won't work as each coil type has to be calibrated for the model it was designed for. There are no trades.

A new F5 coil is different from an F5 coil with a pushon connector?

Thanks gleaner, but I ain't rich.

I have an F5 with several push on coils. I picked up a Goldbug Pro that uses the new screw on connector. F5 and GBPro uses the same coils.

It would seem to me FirstTexas changed the connector to generate revenue as your suggested solution would indicate.

Well let me ask this question.

Is the older F5 with the plug connecter, & the F5 with the screw plug the same when it comes down to metal detecting? OR... is the NEWER one better (with the screw plug) than the older ones at detecting stuff? :read2:

I have always been curious on this.

Someone that knows will have to say.

I believe they are. My F5 version software is 6.1, 6.3 is latest.

What's aggravating is that they didn't change the housing to give you any room to screw the new connector on.

How can you find out what version software you have on a F5. I wonder what mine is. AND.... I wonder if you send in a old unit with the push button connector would the update the software on it to the latest. Hmmmmmm.

I haven't looked into an adapter for using push connectors with screw on machines or vice versa, but I did solve the 'my fingers are too fat' problem with my screw-on F4. I bought male and female plug ends designed for HAM radio microphones and made an extension using 5-core thermostat wire. There's a guy on feepay who sells them for $15-17, but I couldn't see paying that much. All told, I have about $11.00 and an hour's work invested in two of them. They also work with the Garrett ACE series detectors. Now if I could just find a cheaper source for those connectors. They were $9.49 for two pair, and I had to wait for them to be shipped from China!

Older coils on new detector and newer coils on older detectors won't work as each coil type has to be calibrated for the model it was designed for. There are no trades.
In this instance I believe the only difference in the older and newer F2 coils is the change to a screw on connector to replace the older push on style. There should be no difference in the actual windings of the coil. Also, I have owned both the older and newer style F2. My new one doesn't suffer as much from EMI problems, I'm able to run it a bit hotter than my old one. Not sure if it's related to the coil connector, just my 2 cents.
