A forum member posted a picture of a purple pot pipe he found by a schoolyard last week. I had never found a pipe, or imagined finding one before seeing that post, but someone else mentioned it was not an uncommon find. Sure enough, I found one today. I went to an estate sale in an old part of town and while I was there, after I'd bought a few items inside, I asked permission to search the yard. Permission granted. It was a small yard and within a few minutes, I had found this pipe and the metal dominos. The pipe was pretty tarnished, I used Tarn-X on it when I got home. It's silver, but there are no hallmarks on it. It's very neatly made. I had a couple of my neighbors over for a drink, showed them my finds, and Ralph the combat-wounded Viet Nam war vet offered me a $100 for it. I told him I still wanted to show it off to some friends and family. He was worried I'd sell it to someone else, but I assured him I wouldn't.

Mary janes house of glass sells pipe cleaning stuff, you can also use rubbing alcohol on it too. :headbang: Red

Alcohol and salt. The salt acts as a light abrasive to scrub away the residue. Its basically the pipe cleaner they sell at the "head shops". Boiling it in water can help loosen up that stuff too...

thats awesome a silver pipe.
does it have any smell to it?I seem to remember opium smells like laundry detergent.
Walking thru the laundry aisle at walmart brings memeories of My stoner days.(last week)
Only joking its actually been several weeks
Yes boiling it will loosen the residue, then alcohol to clean it.

No, no smell whatever; it may have been in the ground for decades. I think I will try boiling it then leaving it in alchohol overnight. I can see a dark stain around the inside of the mouthpiece which could be residue, I might have to scrub that some how if it's still there after the boil and soak. I can also see dark spots inside the ball, but that could be dirt, the ball was full of dirt when I dug it up.

It still makes me smile thinking that I found this item in that yard.

It just goes to show you that metal detecting is like a box of chocolates... :o

I dont believe you could get busted unless they could actually physically scrape off the residue.

As the others have said, Im sure alcohol/boiling will remove any possible residue. Dont worry.
