Hey all,

Got out with Echoplex from the forum today. What a stand up guy. He is so knowledgeable and is nice as could be. He's been teaching me about beach hunting over the last month and invited me to hunt a site with him today.

I only had an hour and a half and about 20 minutes in I had my first saltwater silver, a 1938-S Washington. So cool!

I gridded and then wandered for a while only managing another clad Quarter during that stretch but man I had a lot of fun. Found lots of beach trash too. I only photographed the stuff small enough to pack out and throw away.

The whole beach is very rocky which makes it tough to dig but also a good challenge. I imagine it's scared people away in the past.

All in all a very fun day. Can't wait to do some more beach hunting this summer!

After my fiancée and I went to check out an apartment and looks like we got it. I'll be moving 3 blocks away at the end of the month. Big changes coming! :P

Good luck all,
-W

Congrats W, silver Is always good no matter the source.

Awesome digs. Is that what saltwater does to silver? Here in the midwest, all the silver i've dug has always looked freshly dropped...no green or tarnish...which always seemed strange to me...but bronze, copper and brass...everything comes out of the ground encrusted in a blanket of green(if it's been there a long time at least).

And yeah...those rocky terrains...irritating but if you know what 'could' be there...you slog through!

Thanks for coming out and the kind words! Looking forward to going again soon

Yes, from the photos I seen a lot end up a dark matte gray. It varies though. Some end up a light matte gray. Haven't seen many come out of the sand shiny like they do out of the dirt. It definitely had me fooled for a clad Quarter when I first saw it.

Congrats on the Silver and your upcoming nuptials!

Congratualtions on the silver and having fun! :occasion14:

Nice! That small brass handle appears to be from an early century razor (found a couple this year and the handle is match). I like a good beach hunt...you never know WHAT you are going to find.

Congrats!!!:headbang:

Good to know. It rang up so sweet...I was wondering what it might be. Thank you!

The firsts in this hobby are so sweet. One day you are carefree and healthy on the beach playing in the surf and finding silver coins, and then suddenly you look up and realize that you dwell on a dead end road plunging through the deepest part of the shadow. Ah, I'm sorry, I got caught up in reminiscing!

Nice find!

Congrats on the salty silver buddy!

Congrats on the silver. Fiancee ? So what your saying is that your metal detecting career is about to come to an abrupt halt !! Just kidding. Congrats and many happy years to the both of you. My wife and I just celebrated our 33rd Anniversary last week, and she has never interfered with my hobby. In fact, I think she likes it when I go. Cant figure that one out !

Congrats on your first salt water silver. My first salt water silver save was a Standing Liberty Quarter. (No date) They usually come out of the salt water, black.
Try to purchase an Excalibur before you get married.
