My name is Ed and I live in Appomattox Virginia. I hunt mainly in Appomattox plus a couple organized hunts a year.

The past few weeks have been good to me, as I have been hunting two Confederate camps and done well.

Last Monday I was off and decided to hunt with my partner DOC at a new location we both have had our eye on for some time. The finds were few and far between BUT I did manage to find an 1858 Remington 44 Caliber Pistol (Still has two bullets loaded but missing the barrel).

I was also able to find a couple firsts, an “A” button and a Batwing along with a “Bulls-Eye Saddle Rosette.

I have a lot of cleaning to do on the Pistol; Electrolysis is the next step as I have done all of the preliminary cleaning I can do,

Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Welcome

those are some awesome finds you have there. I kep looking for CW relics but so far have found none. I am working on a person in New Madrid MO that has found some 3-ringers and one cannonball on their property to allow me and BB to hunt there. Maybe this will work out!

This place is awesome, the members on this board and really smart and dedicated to the MD hobby, I am sure you will love the forum. Again welcome!

Nice CW relics.

That gun has some history for sure!

Welcome to Tnet!

Welcome from across the pond.

If we found some of those we would have to call in the bomb squad. :D

Welcome
You have found some very very nice CW items.
Yeh if that old wheel gun could talk, ahh the stories.

Didn't I read somewhere that officers of the Confederacy had their weapons barrels cut off when the war ended?
It does look like a straight clean cut. Could be.

Probably already know this but those old shells even though duds can and will explode if not handled very carefully. A guy blew up his den , himself and his grandson last year fooling with a dud cannon ball he found. Last I heard he was still critical but his grandson was doing ok. I knew about the rifled artillery or simply "rifles" used during the war but this is the first projectile I have ever seen whole. Great finds on the revolver too, another rare find. Welcome to the forum. monty

It was a live shell but it has been disarmed by a pro (my hunting partner). During that outing he found a live Confederate Cannon Ball as well that has been disarmed. He is in the process of finishing both pieces up; I will post both of them when he is done.

Believe me, driving home that day with two live pieces of Artillery in the truck was a hairy ride. We did though secure them for the ride home.

Welcome to the forum, Ed. It was great to read your story and see the photos of your finds. What a great area to hunt.
