I woke up with the hopes of going out to do some hunting today - but the weather did not cooperate. It rained pretty much all day long and didn't start clearing up until near dusk. I read about some on here doing some detecting at night and figured I'd give it a try. I really liked it! Less people around to bother with and I could concentrate on the hunt.

I dug up a lot of newer pennies - (don't know what to do with those nasty things!) but I did luck out and find one 1942 Wheatie right at the start. This kept me charged up for a few hours. Found some buttons marked "Stanley Blacker" on the back of them - probably from an old suit or something. The other oddball find was the metal button/pin with the couple playing either tennis or badminton on it. The back is marked with "Stieff Pewter" and has a hallmark. Couldn't find much on this particular object but the Stieff company has a website. Will have to keep looking. Finding a British 50 pence piece buried next to a tree was a real weird find as well. The spot I'm trying to hunt lately has been turning out some items from the 30's - 50's so far. Found a spoon marked "Vernon Silver Plate" and located the pattern online - "Casino" manufactured in 1931. All in all I was happy to have been able to get out and not go stir-crazy on my day off. You can bet I am going to try and get back to it again! Thanks for looking!! :)

That Steiff button has to have some value. Wonder if it was from the stuffed animals or just production.
Those pennies look like they'd disappear in another few years!

Looking around a little more I guess it's not that famous stuffed animal maker at all but some pewter company in the US -- Kirk Stieff? Seems they make a lot of pewter buttons and some commemorative button sets as well. Hope you don't mind me searching some on it, it just seemed too interesting to pass up.

DMN - Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks for the information on the name (Kirk Stieff) - I was just searching under "Stieff" and this may help with the search results. I tried "button" (also brooch, pin, lapel..etc - no luck so far). I do love a challenge!
