? ? ?A little over a year ago I was looking for some place close to detect and happen to find an area about 20 minutes from my house .? Doing a little research on the area i found out there were some old home sites dating back to the early 1800's . What was good about this place is that it was along one of the main creeks in this area and most of the early settlers built their homes along or around the creeks and rivers... So when I happen to start detecting I found a few pieces of iron and a couple of old shot gun shells. But then found a flat button at around 7 to 8 inches , then another . Now that is good news !? also some old glass and pottery came out of the ground... Getting late and making my way back to the truck I got another hit finding what looked to be a coin of some type , so when I got home I cleaned it up and seen that it was a Early US Half cent.? so worn you could just make out the Bust on the face...Now I knew the site was worth going? back.? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? The next day I went back and found an old cellar hole out came some buttons and then out of no where a large cent then another ..Finding one of a few cellar holes in the area gave up plenty of items for a great day of hunting...The area from the cellar hole to the road was amazing first I find the war of 1812 artillery Button, then still walking in front another flat button.? Going another 10 feet got a deep hit , start? digging and in the? bottom of the hole at about 12 inches can see an eagle looking right at me ,The back of a seated? half...Whats great about it this was my first Half period..Never found a half dollar until that day....An 1877 Seated Half I was like a Pig in you know what!? I did not want this day to end . That day was great? : 1 seated half, 1 war of 1812 artillery button, 2 bank of upper Canada tokens , and more flat buttons ..Thats not including the large cents and other Relics ,the glass piece is a Horse Bridle with the picture of a Horse and chariot in it..It's different....

? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?? ? ? ? ?Saturday would turn out to be the best, going back with now a few friends? Jim B ,Jim M and John L we all had a? good day . We started along the creek and found a few items and as the day went on we moved up the road to another foundation I have never been to, so we spread out and within a few minutes Jim M? finds a Nice dated 1838 Large Cent at 10 inches ,looking at the ground around the foundation we can see the field was plowed at one time? but it has been years because plenty of sucker trees are growing in the area now...So now John L finds a beautiful Buckle old colonial style now everyone is excited? .next I start finding old flat buttons in front of the cellar Hole ,one then two and another .I had like 5 flat buttons in about 20 minutes next was the day that changed everything? about 15 feet from the road I get a monster hit . The sound was like somehting a few inches down, well I was right when I dug the hole and looked down I say a (what looked to be brass ) slug laying there looking at me. I never though of a gold coin so I picked up the? piece and when I looked at it up close I could see the stars around the rim and then I knew what I was holding.? I now could see the date 1835 all I did then was turn to? the guys and said ,? "You don't even want to see what I just found"? then I heard Jim M say that dos'nt sound good....Being the competators we are in good fun!!!? It was a day to remember and as I showed the guys they were as shocked as I was..Being as worn as it is ,and not many people had five dollars back in them days. So I think this person must have used it as a good luck piece and rolled it in his fingers which would explain how worn the coin is....But like everyone that goes out detecting ,You never know what that day will bring..I definately never thought I would find a gold Coin that day....But that day was the Day!!!? Over the next couple of weeks a number of coins and relics came out of this area many large cents, a Bust Half dime, a seated half dime ,many more Buttons, One of the old Gun Pistol Barrels...and plenty of Relics? ...I'm glad to share this story? with the forum !!!!!Enjoy? ? ? ? ?Seeker? ?;)

Hello!

Now those are some really great finds!

I can tell you about the button.

It is an Artillery button. Made 1808-1821 and is significant of the type AY 52 C.

From my military buttons book," " The Device with 3 Cannon balls below", Slightly convex. "Superior/Quality", eagle above, with border of 13 stars; 23 mm. RV 10"

Very nice finds and congrats on that 5 dollar find!

With gold at $557.90 and the weight of that coin is .2418 ounce of pure gold nets a bullion value of $134.90!

But as a collector coin in about AG 8 or a bit less, it would be worth much more, closer to $350.

But as a found item metal detecting...value? Priceless! Thats what I would say.

Keep up the good work, I am sure that we are all very interested to hear more from this story and your subsequent posts of all of that!

Great finds!

Happy Hunting and good luck!

? ? ? ?No Problem Haupin...they are both nice Pieces, the one on the right looks like one my friend found and it had a picture of President Harrison in it and the pic was in nice condition... I found 2 with the glass and the one I posted was the best of the two.....Thanks for sharing your finds !!!? ?Seeker
